Dead Space Remake - All Difficulty Settings
Dead Space Remake (2023) offers players 5 difficulty levels to suit their play style. Read on to learn the difference between the Story, Easy, Medium, Hard, and Impossible difficulty levels, which level is best suited for you, and how to change difficulties!

List of Difficulty Settings

Difficulty	Description
Story	Isaac deals much more damage, takes much less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts much longer. Isaac also heals automatically, and enemy grappling attacks are much easier to escape.
Easy	Isaac deals more damage and takes less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts somewhat longer. Enemy grappling attacks are somewhat easier to escape.
Medium	Enemies and Isaac both take baseline damage.
Hard	Isaac takes much more damage. Enemies take much less damage.
Impossible	A special challenge mode. Completing it will earn a unique suit and weapon. This mode has the same damage settings as Hard Difficulty, but autosaves are disabled; only one save slot is available, and one life. Dying prompts a full restart, or continuing on Hard Difficulty.

There are 5 difficulty tiers available in the game, with the hardest difficulty being the Impossible level, which was previously only available after beating the game, but is now available from the onset in the remake. The Story difficulty is new to the remake.

Going up in difficulty levels increases the health values and damage output of each Necromorph you fight. Players will have to be increasingly cautious during Necromorph encounters in higher difficulties, as a few hits from even the weakest Necromorphs can quickly drain their health bar.

Permadeath and One Save Slot in Impossible Difficulty

Dead Space Remake (2023) - Fewer Resources Available to Loot

When playing on Impossible difficulty, players are restricted to a single life and save slot, meaning they cannot die at any point in their playthrough or create multiple saves. Due to these constraints, players will have to consistently stay alert and play optimally to prevent accidental or surprise deaths throughout their playthrough.

Gold G:150	Untouchable
Gold G:150	Complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting. ►Impossible Mode Rewards and Changes

Completing the game on the hardest difficulty level, Impossible, will reward the player with the Untouchable trophy. Obtaining this trophy is only possible from a fresh save, as you cannot change to Impossible difficulty during an on-going playthrough.

How to Change Difficulty

Change Difficulty in Gameplay Settings

You can change your difficulty at any time during your playthrough by opening up the Gameplay tab of the Settings menu and choosing the Select Difficulty option. In the difficulty selection screen, you can freely swap between Story, Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulties.

Impossible Difficulty Only Available from New Game

However, you cannot swap to Impossible difficulty in the middle of an on-going playthrough. This difficulty mode is only available when starting a New Game due to its permadeath and single save slot restrictions.
