Our team considered the factors below during the creation of this tier list. In addition, please note that this tier list is subjective and based on our experience playing the game.
① Kill Speed The Dead Space Remake often subjects the player to situations where they get swarmed by multiple Necromorphs at once or require them to kill enemies under a time limit, such as in oxygenless environments. Due to these factors, we placed a high emphasis on a weapon's kill speed when placing them on this tier list. |
② Overall Usability and Versatility Another important factor we considered for this tier list is a weapon's overall usability and versatility. Since the game only provides players with four weapon slots, guns that can deal with a wide variety of situations are ranked higher on this list. |
③ Ammo Efficiency We also considered each weapon's ammo efficiency when ranking them on this tier list. Ammo drops are more scarce in the Remake, so weapons that output plenty of firepower in just a few shots take higher spots on the list. |
④ Flesh and Armor-tearing Capability The last factor we considered for this tier list is each weapon's capability of quickly tearing through a Necromorph's flesh and armor. In the Remake, the Necromorphs' limbs are much sturdier, with some even covered by armor, so weapons that can quickly tear limbs or expose bone place much higher on the tier list. |
Do you think a weapon deserves to be higher or lower on the list? Sound off in our comments section and tell us which weapons you think are the best in the Dead Space Remake!
Plasma Cutter | ||
---|---|---|
High-energy precision mineral cutter. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 100 pts | 200 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 10 | 23 |
Reload Time (REL) | 1.67 sec | 1.10 sec |
Rate of Fire (ROF) | 150 rpm | 225 rpm |
Taking the top spot in our SS-Tier is the Plasma Cutter, one of the most iconic weapons in the Dead Space franchise. This weapon offers accurate shots, highly-consistent damage output, and plenty of versatility thanks to its vertical and horizontal firing modes.
On top of these traits, the Plasma Cutter also sports one of the cheapest and most common ammo types in the game with Plasma Energy, making it incredibly ammo efficient considering its efficient limb-tearing capability.
Pulse Rifle | ||
---|---|---|
Military-grade assault rifle with a high rate of fire. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 40 pts | 75 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 50 | 160 |
Reload Time (REL) | 2.17 sec | 1.30 sec |
The Pulse Rifle is our second pick for the SS-Tier. Though it can quickly chew through ammo, its high fire rate and large ammo capacity let you tear through limbs quickly and apply constant and consistent damage toward any threat.
In addition, its secondary fire now launches Proximity Mines in the Remake, which players can use as traps in chokepoints or as a quick, explosive option to tear through hordes of Necromorphs.
With its primary fire providing solid single-target firepower and its secondary fire being a versatile crowd-control option, the Pulse Rifle proves itself a worthwhile option in any loadout.
Force Gun | ||
---|---|---|
Short range kinetic booster device. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 100 pts | 170 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 5 | 12 |
Reload Time (REL) | 2.50 sec | 1.75 sec |
Rate of Fire (ROF) | 60 rpm | 96 rpm |
The Force Gun is another reworked weapon in the Remake that takes a spot in our SS-Tier. The weapon's primary fire is much stronger in the Remake, as it peels off a Necromorph's flesh in an instant while forcefully knocking them backward.
Furthermore, the gun's new Gravity Well secondary fire is an excellent crowd-control option. Each shot is capable of vacuuming all nearby Necromorphs into a single spot and making them vulnerable to the rest of your arsenal.
While its long-range capabilities have been reduced, the Force Gun is still a highly-effective and flexible pick to round out your weapon loadouts in the Dead Space Remake.
Line Gun | ||
---|---|---|
A standard Line Gun used for cutting wide slabs of ore. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 150 pts | 300 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 5 | 11 |
Reload Time (REL) | 2.50 sec | 1.75 sec |
Projectile Speed (SPD) | 50 m/sec | 70 m/sec |
Rate of Fire (ROF) | 55 rpm | 85 rpm |
Having wide-reaching shots and a high damage output, the Line Gun takes the first spot on our S-Tier. While the weapon has a slow fire rate, its effectiveness in holding down narrow hallways and clearing hordes of Necromorphs make it a reliable choice for any loadout.
In addition, the Line Gun's crowd-control capabilities are improved in the Remake with its new Laser Trap. While less explosive than the original's delayed mines, the Laser Trap acts as a consistent, set-and-forget option when fighting in hallways.
Ripper | ||
---|---|---|
Remote industrial saw. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 40 pts | 110 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 8 | 15 |
Reload Time (REL) | 2.17 sec | 1.52 sec |
Duration (DUR) | 7.00 sec | 10.00 sec |
The Ripper takes another spot on our S-Tier. Compared to its version in the original game, the Ripper features easier-to-aim sawblades that easily stagger most Necromorphs and a higher damage output that lets the weapon quickly tear through limbs.
Its secondary fire in the Remake also features a few improvements, hitting Necromorphs more consistently and being capable of ricocheting off walls, making it a more reliable option to have in your loadout.
Contact Beam | ||
---|---|---|
Heavy damage energy projector. |
||
Base | Max | |
Secondary Fire Damage (SFD) | 400 pts | 1000 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 12 | 25 |
Reload Time (REL) | 3.00 sec | 2.11 sec |
Primary Fire Damage (PFD) | 75 pts | 150 pts |
The Contact Beam is our second pick for the S-Tier due to its incredible single-target firepower. While its low ammo efficiency and slow reload speed hold it back from taking a spot in higher tiers, the Contact Beam's ability to quickly tear through Necromorphs still makes it an excellent weapon to wield.
The Contact Beam also features a new secondary fire with its Asteroid Cutter, capable of taking down most Necromorphs in a single, fully-charged shot.
Flamethrower | ||
---|---|---|
Hydrazine industrial torch. |
||
Base | Max | |
Damage (DMG) | 65 pts | 90 pts |
Capacity (CAP) | 50 | 110 |
Reload Time (REL) | 2.17 sec | 1.52 sec |
Duration (DUR) | 5.00 sec | 9.00 sec |
The Flamethrower is our only weapon on the A-Tier, offering potent damage over time with its flames and decent crowd control with its Flame Wall secondary fire. The weapon is also notable for clearing out waves of Swarmers in an instant with a single sweep of its flames.
While it has the potential to reach higher tiers with a few upgrades and with creative placement of Flame Walls, the Flamethrower's short range and low stagger capability in the Remake make it difficult to choose over the other weapons in the game.

The ripper should easily be SS tier because of the following reason: Ammo efficiency. With the first 3 nodes, you can get +2 damage and it is enough to kill 1 necromorph with one ripper blade. Maxed out, it has the potential to kill up to 3-4 necromorphs with one blade. On hard and especially impossible mode ammo is incredibly difficult to find. But with the ripper in your arsenal, you will literally be drowning in ammo.

Pulse rifles’ primary fire damage is complete garbage, the proximity mines are great but it definitely isn’t SS quality. The ripper kills and staggers most enemies with a single round even if you’re not aiming for weak points. This should be SS.
