How to Grind Tempest Trials Quickly

You Win!

Unsure of what difficulty you should play Tempest Trials on for the best score? This guide will show you the fastest way to grind through Tempest Trials for the highest score and explain the Speed and Survival rank, as well as give our recommended units.

Tips for a Higher Score

Points for a High Score

  • Clear each map in as few turns as possible (Speed Rating)
  • Try and avoid having any teams wiped out (Survival Rating)
  • Select stages with a higher difficulty (Base Score)
  • Clear with a Bonus Ally on your team

Don't take to many turns!

One of the criteria for your score in Tempest Trials is Speed. This requires you to clear each map in as few turns as possible.

In order to quickly clear each map and achieve a higher score, it is important that you have powerful allies on your team who can OHKO the enemies.

Recommended Allies with High Offensive Stats

Celica Tharja Reinhardt
Nino Julia Kagero
Bridal Cordelia

Aim for Zero Deaths!

To get the highest score possible, you need to make sure your units to not die before clearing the final map. Battle while staying out of the enemy Danger Area, and make use of refresher skills and movement assists to keep safe.

How to Get a High Score Quickly

You will need a good strategy in order to make the most of your time and build a high score quickly. Speed has a huge effect on your final score, so the most important thing is to take as few turns as possible to complete each map.

Use Bonus Units

Bonus Units will receive HP+10 and +4 to all other stats. These bonus points will give a non-merged ally the same stat bonuses of a +10 ally, which is also like having a Fortify skill constantly active on all stats. Bonus Units are very powerful with these stat boosts, so use them as much as possible.

If you are tired of playing manually, set Lunatic 5 Battles to Auto-Battle

Using Auto-Battle on lower difficulties

For whatever reason, you may find yourself becoming bored with challenging the same map over and over. If that is the case, you can always lower the difficulty and set your team to Auto-Play through each map.

Very time efficient, but not stamina efficient

The benefit of lowering the difficulty and using Auto-Battle for Tempest Trials lies in the fact that you can significantly reduce the time required to plan and move your units around, making it much more easy to complete multiple times. The only drawback is the fact that it will quickly eat up your stamina and you earn less points, so this method is much better if you have excess stamina refills.

Unequip weapons from heroes you do not want fighting

The AI for Auto-Battle has a bad habit of always hopping straight into battle, so healers and dancers will be quickly demolished by opponents. To deal with this, you can unequip these units' weapons, making it so that they can only use their assist skills. This will greatly increase your survival rating in these maps.

Tempest Trials Scoring Criteria

Take on the difficulty appropriate for your units!

In Tempest Trials, you receive a higher Base Score for taking on maps at higher difficulty levels. The difference between Hard and Lunatic is minimal, and the score earned in getting an AA rank for each one only differs by about 60 pts.

Explanation of Scoring Criteria

The score that you earn in Tempest Trials is based on various factors. There are five criteria in which your score is determined.

Score Type Explanation
Base Score A fixed number on every map
Maps Cleared Increases with each map you complete
Speed Dependent on the number of turns you took
Survival Dependent on the number of your units who survived
Bonus Ally Dependent on whether or not you used a Bonus Ally

Base Score

Difficulty Base Score
Lunatic 40
Hard 35
Normal Lv. 20: 35
Lv. 14: 30
Lv. 8: 25

Maps Cleared

Your score is multiplied by the number of maps you cleared.

Ex: If you complete 4 maps, your score will be multiplied by 4.

Speed

Your Speed rating is determined by the number of turns you took to complete the event. Turns where you surrendered or had your allies defeated will not count towards your score, and the criteria is based on the turns spent actually completing the map.

Survival

Another criteria is Survival Rank, where your score increases if more allies survied. See the chart below for more info.

Rank Multiplier Condition
A 1.2 No parties were defeated
B 1.15 One party was defeated
C 1.10 Two parties were defeated
D 1.05 Three parties were defeated

Bonus Ally

Adding even just one of the bonus allies to a team you use will give you a bonus multiplier towards your final score. However, this bonus only applies once, so there is no point in using multiple bonus units, unless you just like having them on your team.

For example, the event Tempest Trials+: For a Smile had the following bonus units.

Heroes That Add a 40% Bonus
