When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Atk/-Res

The recommended IVs for Ares are +Atk and -Res. With an Atk boon, Ares will be able to deal significant damage per attack. Since it will further decrease the amount of follow-up attacks he has to suffer +Spd is a decent boon as well. His poor Res stat is safe to have as a dump stat, but be warned that this stat is a superbane, and a flaw in this stat will mean -4 to his Resistance.

How to Use, Explanation

Much like Valentine’s Ike, this build uses Vantage to strike before the foe and OHKO them with a special. If Distant Counter is too much of an investment, or you do not have it, his default A skill Brazen Atk/Def 3 can be used instead.

How to Use, Explanation

By using the C Skill suggested here (Threaten Atk 3), you can lower the foe’s Atk which will make it difficult for them to deal much damage. Ares already has the A skill Brazen Atk/Def 3, so this build aims to further increase his defenses.

Dark Mystletainn's refine will grant Atk/Def+5 to Ares if an enemy unit attacks him or if their HP is HP ≥ 75%.

He will also be able to potentially deal an additional +7 damage when his Special triggers and if the enemy HP requirement is fulfilled.

We recommend getting this refine as Ares will be a very potent physical damage tank and one that can take full advantage of using Vantage to one-shot enemy units.

Ares is a close ranged physical attacker. Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def. His weapon skill also allows him to speed up his Special Cooldown.

Ares's Strengths

Dish out specials quickly with Dark Mystletainn!

Ares's exclusive weapon skill Dark Mystletainn lowers his special skill's default cooldown by one. Additionally, if his special triggers in combat the cooldown count will be reduced by two. This makes Ares great for long battles and multi-map challenges.

His weapon refine also allows him to deal an additional +7 damage if his Special triggers and if the requirements are met.

Gain huge Atk and Def buffs when HP drops

Ares's default skill Brazen Atk/Def 3 can raise his Atk and Def stats when his HP drops below 80%. As long as he does not get OHKO'ed, he will become very difficult to take out for good.

Inflicts a penalty on foes after combat

His B Skill Seal Def/Res 2 will lower the Def and Res stats of a foe after combat. Therefore, Ares's battle strategy should be something like the following: take an attack from an enemy, inflict a Def stat penalty, gain buffs through Brazen Atk/Def and strike the foe down.

Ares's Weaknesses

Be wary of cavalry-effective weapons

As a cavalry unit, Ares must watch out for cavalry effect weapons like Ridersbane, as they will deal a ton of damage. Battle while taking note of the weapons your enemies wield.

Poor Resistance Stat

Ares has an awful Res stat, furthered by a superbane in this area, meaning he gets demolished by mages and dragons. Know your weaknesses and stay out of where they can reach him.
