Timeline of Events

Year 2277: The Present

The Present
The story begins in the present, when the world teeters on the brink of ruin due to an impending catastrophe known as the Resurgence. Sealed by the Revenant named Idris, it allowed the Resurgence to be sealed, albeit temporary, as the seal slowly weakened due to the passage of time.

Thanks to the efforts of past heroes, the Resurgence was sealed, preventing the world from falling into ruin after the great battle known as the Upheaval through their own sacrifice. However, the seal is slowly weakening once again, threatening civilization.

In the present, the Seals holding the Resurgence at bay are slowly breaking apart due to the Heroes' inability to bear the Resurgence's burden.

To prevent the world's end, the player is tasked by Lavinia to go into multiple points in the past with Lou, a Revenant who has the unique ability to travel back in time to gather the objects needed to break the seals in order to save the present.

2177: Assault on Magmell Era

Assault on Magmell Era
Lou travels with the player to the past for the first time in order to get used to her time-jumping ability. This leads to a chance meeting with Noah, a Revenant that perished in the past due to his battle with Frantz, the Dejected Assailant.

After assisting Noah and Valentin through various errands, the player is rewarded with access to Magmell's repository, where the Pathos Weaving Forma can be obtained. This special forma allows people's pathos to be linked, completing Lou's time traveling ability.

With your business in Magmell Era concluded, you and Lou are forcibly returned to the present through Lavinia's machinations, which was set to return Lou and the Hero to the present as soon as Lou's power was complete.

This causes the player and Lou to return to the present just as Franz begins his attack on Magmell Island, leaving Noah to his fate.

A Shift in the Timeline, a Rewritten Future

Changing Noah
Lavinia warns that changing the past is bound to have consequences for the present. Therefore, only absolutely necessary actions are permitted in order to preserve the future.

Because of the player's bond with Noah, his pathos appears, giving the player the option to travel back in time. Now, the player must choose whether to follow Lavinia's instructions or save Noah, which would allow him to live but will rewrite the future.

2177: The Hero Holly's Era

Hero Holly
Having collected Holly, The Reaper's Pathos in the Undead Forest, the player and Lou managed to make a successful time jump into the past, though the unstable bond has led to Lou's time jump to veer off the intended time period.

The player discovers that the player has been suffering from an affliction, similar to that of the sickness unique to those of the Luxuria Bloodline. Luckily, Holly is able to provide treatment through the Luxuria Bloodline's unique ability to heal revenants.

Slaying the Hero Holly Walkthrough

Breaking Holly's Seals

Due to the instability of Holly's Pathos, Lou and the Player travel back into the present, where they are approached by a girl named Lycoris.

With no other way forward, Lou and the player follows Lycoris's instructions on removing the shackles on the different regions in the undead forest in order to break Holly's seal.

It is then revealed that the Lycoris is actually Monica, a manifestation of Holly's mother. With Holly defeated, her seal unbound, and her purpose fulfilled, Monica leaves, and the player moves on to the next seal.

2178: The Hero Lyle's Era

The Hero Lyle
Lou and the player time jump into Lyle's era, where the player attempts to join Lyle's posse, the Dawn Chorus. The hero faces Lyle himself, a peerless swordsman, immediately recognizing the extent of the player's abilities.

The Leader of Dawn Chorus, Craig, tasks the player and Lyle to lead the attack on Pioneer Castle. Gaining Craig's trust, the player is given a dagger in celebration of his initiation to the Dawn Chorus. The player, alongside Lyle, commences the attack on Pioneer's Castle on Lou's suggestion.

With the attack being successful, and the Mark of Dawn Chorus insignia engraved into the dagger, the bond of the Pathos strengthens, satisfying the condition needed to unlock Lyle's seal. After saying farewell to Lyle, the player returns to the present.

2179: The Hero Josee's Era

Josee
The player and Lou travel back to Josee's era in order to find the key needed to gain access to her cocoon. A revered hero, Josee is beloved by her followers in the Sunken City, and her loss led the Sunken City outposts to deteriorate.

Narrowly saved by Josee due to misunderstanding with the local populace, the player assists Josee in defeating the Metagen Remnant, who is responsible for the pollution in Sunken City.

Thankful for the player's assistance, Josee and the player part ways on good terms, as Josee was also able to see her sister Lise's Vestiges, allowing her to know her sister Lise's thoughts in her last moments.

Josee rewards the player with the Glutton's Eyes amidst their goodbyes, a weapon infused with the powers of both Josee and her sister, Lise. Infused with their Pathos, as well as the sisters' feelings that are so potent that not even the passage of time has diminished it.

And with that, the player and Lou return to the present to face Josee and break her seal.

Slaying the Hero Josee Walkthrough

A Second Resurgence

Josee
After she is defeated, another Vestige reveals that Josee prevented a second resurgence from occurring. Another Pathos appears, but Lou is unable to go back in time because the link to that era has weakened considerably, preventing further investigation.

With the seal broken and the Josee defeated, the Hero returns to the present.

2197: The Hero Zenon's Era

Zenon
With three of the heroes unsealed, Lavinia reveals the identity of the fourth hero, Hero Zenon Gryfote. And so, the player travels to Insula Carcare, accompanied by Lavinia, to undo the seal.

With the way forward sealed, the player travels back into the The Insula Carcare of the past to meet Zenon. Upon fulfilling his requests, he provides the player with an upgraded keycard, which the player uses to undo the seal back in the present.

Facing the Hero Valentin: A Hero's End

A Hero
The last hero is revealed to be Valentin Voda, the heir of House Voda. And so, the hero travels to the heart of Luna Rapacis to face him. Accompanied by Noah, the player travels once more.

With Noah's sacrifice, the player continues to venture forward, seeing vestiges of Valentin's past. Upon his defeat, Lavinia reveals her true intent, which is to propagate the Resurgence worldwide, ending the existence of Remnants.

Slaying the Hero Valentin Walkthrough

2207: The Upheaval Era (Luna Fraterna)

The Upheaval
Through Zenon's intuition, he had enforced a failsafe forma that would trigger should the player's heart stop beating, which was triggered by Lavinia's actions.

This transports the player to the time just before going to Valentin's location. Aware of the player's goals, Zenon also provides the player a bond to travel far back into the past, when the Upheaval began.

Armed with knowledge of future events, the player goes back in time to take part in the Upheaval. Accompanied by great heroes, they make their way to the top of the spire, defeating all enemies along the way.

Timeline Shift Decision: Upheaval Walkthrough

Facing Soul Savior Valentin

Soul Savior Valentin
Valentin reveals that Lou was specifically created to act as the seal for the Resurgence. Valentin attempts to erase all the revenants to stop the resurgence, but is defeated by the player and the party.

Following Valentin's defeat, Lou was able to seal the resurgence successfully, at the cost of the player's life.

Rescuing Lou

Miraculous Bonds Ending
The player awakens and is immediately contacted by Lavinia, who provides instructions for you to collect fragments of your power in order to return to the land of the living, and save Lou.

After overcoming the formidable challenge posed by the Resurgence Core, the Lou and the player regain consciousness, emerging victorious thanks to the strong bonds they have forged during their travels.

With Lou successfully keeping the resurgence at bay, the player reunites with the heroes, successfully saving the world, as the way to diffuse the seal has been finalized, and arriving at the best possible outcome.
