Weapons will be your main source of damage, so choose ones that suit your playstyle and are fun to use as you begin building your character around them.
If you prefer heavy, hard-hitting attacks, the Two-Handed Sword or Hammer will suit you best. If you plan on staying mobile during combat, the One-Handed Sword and Twin Blades will fit like a glove! Bayonets and the New Rune Blades are for long-range attacks if that is your preference!

Blood Codes alter your character’s stats, such as Attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Willpower, etc.), elemental and status ailment resistances, and Max Ichor. Each Blood Code possesses Traits, which provide passive effects depending on whether you meet their conditions. Some Traits do not require any conditions to activate. Most of these Traits will affect your playstyle, as some revolve around different in-game mechanics, such as inflicting status ailments, landing consecutive hits, or using drain attacks as often as possible.
You can also toggle Switch Display for a more detailed explanation of notable Traits, like Josee's Blood Code, where you gain Ichor from weapon attacks but take recoil damage whenever you gain excess Ichor. Some players may be confused about why they're taking damage when attacking enemies, which is why it's important to understand Traits of the Blood Codes you own.

Before committing to attacks, study enemy patterns and how they behave in combat first. This helps prevent you from getting animation-locked during an enemy’s attack, allowing you to safely dodge or block and avoid losing HP.
As you progress further, you’ll often encounter groups of enemies, so taking the time to learn their attack patterns from past fights will come in handy when dealing with multiple enemies at once.

Code Vein 2’s open world hides areas that lead to valuable loot that can aid in exploration and combat. Fully explore each area and check every nook and cranny before moving on to the next to make sure you don’t miss anything worthwhile.
With Code Vein 2’s new build system, you can experiment with different builds to find what feels right for you. Equip various Formaes, and try different Blood Codes and weapons to discover the perfect fit!

During exploration, always expect enemies lying in wait around corners or dangling from above, ready to ambush you. It’s recommended to dodge away when entering rooms or passing corners to avoid getting surprise attacks.

Partners are flexible and can help reduce the difficulty of fights. They can be summoned to attack enemies and draw enemy aggro, giving you room to breathe. You can also temporarily absorb a partner through Assimilation, boosting your stats and abilities.
Partners provide bonuses ranging from passive effects to stat boosts. Link Traits are bonuses that are only active when partner bond is high and are temporarily disabled when that bond drops due to taking enemy attacks. Lastly, partners have the ability to revive you through Restorative Offering, but doing so leaves them incapacitated for a short time.
Your partner disappears and enters cooldown after reviving you with Restorative Offering. Your partner can be summoned an unlimited number of times, so if you’re struggling in a battle, focus on evading enemy attacks until they return to draw aggro away from you and attack enemies, but most importantly for revives.
How Does Restorative Offering Work?
While it may feel good to hoard consumables in case you need them all for one big fight, it’s better to use them as you progress, as this gives you more opportunities to deal damage. You can use items that imbue your weapons with elemental damage to boost your attacks. This is also helpful for discovering boss weaknesses and making fights easier.

Formae are skills or abilities that cost Ichor, and you should not hold back from using them, since some can deal massive damage or enhance both your and your partner’s attacks. Ichor can be easily replenished through Drain Attacks on enemies.
Healing makes you prone to attacks, since your character is animation-locked until the action is complete. Enemies can sometimes follow up on their initial attacks quickly, meaning that healing can end up doing more harm than good if an enemy’s attack connects before the heal goes through.
It’s better to create some distance between you and your enemy before healing, or to wait until the enemy finishes its attack pattern if the area is confined.

Regional Pathos provide permanent buffs as long as you're in the same region. Finding and activating them will grant you a multitude of buffs to help in combat.

Equip Blood Codes and raise their proficiency to the maximum level, as they are a prerequisite for obtaining a higher-grade version of the same Blood Code. You can usually obtain higher-grade Blood Codes by speaking with the NPC associated with them. Blood Codes at maximum proficiency are marked with a red star on their icons.

Check each piece of gear and read its description to determine which one is best to equip. For example, the default Bleeding Shield reduces damage when blocking, but later you can find a different shield called the Clotted Shield that nullifies physical damage instead of just reducing it. Carefully reviewing your gear and equipping the one will give you an advantage in combat.

Show your Travel Path to show which areas you have already went to. This is useful in finding areas where you have yet to explore, especially in locations with a maze-like structure.

Destroying map jammers reveals areas of the map, making it easier to find the correct path to your next destination, since you can clearly see the route once the fog has lifted. Map jammers are marked with red circles in fogged areas.
