How to Beat Franz the Dejected Assailant

Focus on Parrying His Attacks

Franz the Dejected Assailant is an aggressive boss that performs various melee combos with both his claw and sword. We highly recommend to focus on parrying his attacks by using either the Mutinous Bracer forma or the Reaper jail to provide you with huge openings for damage.

Most of his melee attacks can be parried so make sure to parry his claw dash attack and lance thrust combos as they are easily telegraphed.

How to Parry

Weave Attacks Between His Combos

Every time Franz executes a 3-hit melee combo, this will provide you with an opening to deal a few hits before he starts performing another move.

For his Claw combo, we suggest dodging towards the ground smash to give you a good spot for dealing at least 2 attacks. His 2-hit Sword combo also provides a great opening for executing heavy attacks or casting power Formae.

Start Dodging During His 2nd Phase

Once you reach his 2nd phase, he will start performing ranged attacks more frequently that can be difficult to parry due to their timings. Instead, we recommend to focus on dodging and running as his laser beam and other ranged attacks cannot be parried for openings.

You can find Franz the Dejected Assailant at the Forma Storage Tower in the MagMell Island during the Timeline Shift Decision: Noah questline in the past. Take note that this has to be in the 2177: Assault on MagMell Era timeline in order for you to access the Franz the Dejected Assailant boss fight.

Moves Details
Claw Rush
Franz dashes towards you with his claw and follows up with a claw sweep into a ground smash. The first two hits can be parried while the last hit can only be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Whirlwind
Franz winds up his claw behind him and spins around twice to execute two claw sweeps. This move can be blocked, parried and dodged when timed correctly.
Double Slash
Franz readies his sword and executes two sweeping slashes from both directions. This move can be blocked, parried and dodged when timed correctly.
Slash Thrust
Franz deals a sweeping attack into a sword thrust and performs a backstep. This move can be blocked, parried and dodged when timed correctly.
Triple Shot
Franz readies his bayonett to fire three shots at you from range. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Flying Triple Shot
Franz jumps into the air and fires three shots at you from range. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.

Vanishing Swipe
Franz teleports behind you to perform a short claw sweep into a ground smash that has a second AoE pulse. The first hit can be parried while the last two hits can only be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Dragging Uppercut
Franz drags his claw on the ground and performs an uppercut with a wide range. This move can be blocked and dodged when timed correctly.
Claw Cannon
Franz aims his claw at you and fires a red beam cannon that can knock you down. This move cannot be blocked and can only be dodged when timed correctly.
Laser Beam
Franz fires a quick laser beam at you with his head. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Double Laser Sweep
Franz uses his head to fire two sweeping laser beams from left to right. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Vanishing Laser Cannon
Franz teleports behind you and charges up his claw cannon to fire it in a sweep across the area. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
Laser Drain
Franz holds out his severed head and unleashes a large channeling laser in front of him. This move cannot be parried but can be blocked or dodged when timed correctly.
