How to Beat Bernard the Dead-Eyed Retainer

Parry His Melee Attacks

Most of Bernard's melee attacks are fairly simple and easy to telegraph due to their long wind-ups and slow animations with the greatsword. We recommend equipping the Mutinous Bracer to parry his melee attacks as much as you can for big openings to deal damage.

Keep in mind that you can also make use of the Reaper Jail since the initial spin animation allows you to parry melee attacks as well.

How to Parry

Dodge The Lightning Attacks

Bernard is also capable of executing lightning attacks such as his 3-hit Lightning Combo and Lightning Rain which cannot be parried safely due to their lightning effects. As soon as his hand starts glowing purple, sprint and dodge away to avoid the rain of lightning surrounding him.

Keep a look out for his 3-hit Lightning Combo as you can parry the greatsword swings but the lightning after-effects can still hit you after parrying so we suggest dodging away instead to avoid getting damaged.

You can find Bernard the Dead-Eyed Retainer at the Abandoned Land in the Corroded Scar during the Slaying the Hero Lyle questline. Take note that this has to be in the 2178: The Hero Lyle's Era timeline in order for you to access the Bernard the Dead-Eyed Retainer boss fight.

Defeating Bernard the Dead-Eyed Retainer will drop the Nameless Halberd Blood Code that you can equip to help build your character as you progress through the game.
