In the Valley of Defilment you will encounter enemies and areas that can inflict the Poison and Plague status in droves, and the narrow walkways don't make things any easier. This means that if you don't deal with the enemies as you go, you will have difficulty progressing through this area. The Valley of Defilement is dark as well, making it difficult to see where you need to go and you may fall to your death on multiple occasions. Despite this level's difficulty, the bosses are quitue simple in comparison, so this area is all about whether or not you can make it to the boss room.

| ② | At the top, head forwards and drop down to a location below you. |
| ③ | Cross the bridge and follow the path down. |
| ④ | Go across another bridge and pass through the fog door. |
| ⑤ | Take another bridge and turn right. |
| ⑥ | Go down and out of the open door. |
| ⑦ | Go to the other side and up the path to another bridge. |
| ⑧ | After you've crossed the last bridge head down. |
| ⑧ | Pass through the fog door and keep moving towards the boss room. |
5-1: Valley of Defilement Story Walkthrough and Map
| ① | Head straight from the Archstone until you reach an open area. |

| ② | To your right there is a path down so go there. |
| ③ | If you keep heading straight, you'll reach an area with a broken bridge. |
| ④ | If you turn around towards the way you came, there is an area that you can drop down to. |
| ⑤ | Once down, tilty our camera up until you see a path of torches. With these as your guide, press on. |
| ⑥ | On the last island you'll find some enemies. Keep your distance and continue on to find a fog door. |
| ⑦ | Keep following the path. Be careful of the bridge as you can drop to your death. |
| ⑧ | Pass through the fog door. |
| ⑧ | Enter the building and go straight. Take the staircase up to the second floor. |
| ⑨ | There will be a Giant Depraved One waiting you above so avoid or kill it and keep going to the boss room's fog door. |
