There are three types of potions in the game, Potions, Splash Potions, and Lingering Potions.

Potions are for drinking, while Splash Potions and Lingering Potions are for throwing. Splash Potions are absorbed by target entities, while Lingering Potions create an effect cloud on the target location, and entities that pass the location will gain the effect.

How to Make a Potion of Poison

Place the Ingredients in a Brewing Stand

Place the Base on to any of the bottom slots in the Brewing Stand, and the Ingredient on to the top slot to create the Resulting Potion. The required fuel at the top left is Blaze Powder.

How to Use a Potion of Poison

Slowly Drain Your Target's Health

Poison deals continuous damage to the health of a player or mob for a brief period of time. Be aware that undead mobs are immune both to poison and regeneration.

You can either drink a Potion of Poison, or you can throw a Splash or Lingering Potion of Poison to a desired location for the effect.
