Version 1.20 Update Speculations and Predictions

Version 1.20 Minecraft Update Predictions

The release of Version 1.19: The Wild Update to Minecraft brings the rise of new speculations about what features Version 1.20 will bring. Read on to find out when we predict 1.20 will be released, what its title will be, and what updates it will have.

When will Version 1.20 be Released?

The last 6 major updates to Minecraft have come in April 2019, December 2019, June 2020, June 2021, November 2021, and June 2022. Aside from 2020, there have been two major patches each year.

With that in mind, it stands to reason that the 1.20 Update will likely arrive towards the end of the year, in either November or December.

What will Version 1.20 be Called?

If our prediction of major updates to the Desert biome comes to fruition, then the next patch will be titled similarly to the previous one's Version 1.19: The Wild. It will be Version 1.20: The Desert.

1.20 Update Predicted Features

Desert Biome Updates

Desert
With major updates to biomes becoming commonplace, it's only expected that untouched biomes will have the same kind of revamp that will give them numerous new features.

Of the ones yet to be overhauled, the Desert biome seems to be the most likely candidate due to its size and common presence in most worlds. An update to the Desert will breathe new life into a biome that most people usually just want to leave the moment they see it.

List of All Biomes

New Blocks

Cactus in Desert Minecraft
It'll be great to populate the Desert with new blocks so that it's not just an endless string of sand. Palm Trees that drop Palm Logs would be a great addition since they'll make gathering resources in the Desert much easier. In the same vein, Cactus Variants such as Prickly Pears and Peyote could provide new resources to gather for food and crafting.

A dangerous new addition that could be made to Deserts would be Quicksand, which can act similarly to Soul Sand, except it will drag you down the longer you stay in it.

New Mobs

Rabbit Desert
It's a missed opportunity that Pyramids in the Desert are empty save for a few chests and some TNT. A way to make exploring these areas interesting would be to add Mummies here that will lay dormant in a sarcophagus but will attack you if you step foot inside.

Other hostile Mobs that can be added would be Snakes that can inflict poison damage over time if you're bit, and even Vultures that will attack you if your hunger bar is low. Neutral Animals that can be added would be Camels, which would function similarly to Llamas, and Ostriches, which can dart through the Desert quickly.

New Areas

Pyramid Minecraft
In line with the addition of Mummies, Pyramids can be expanded to be more exciting areas to explore. The loot in treasure chests can be made more difficult to get by increasing the size of Pyramids and adding more traps or puzzles. Of course, the increased danger will also mean the rarity of the loot will also increase.

The addition of Palm Trees can also bring with them an Oasis, which would be an isolated patch of water and trees in a seemingly empty desert. These can help make the biome less empty and more lived-in.

Farming Updates

Farms

It's been some time since new updates were made to the Farming system in Minecraft, so new crops to plant such as Corn, Tomatoes, and Lettuce would be welcome surprises. These give you more options for what resources and food to gather.

A totally overhauled Farming system can even be introduced, which will you require you to keep a closer eye on your crops instead of just placing them beside water and calling it a day.
