How to Get Efficiency

Obtain using Enchanting Tables

The most common way to obtain Efficiency is through an Enchanting Table. You'll need XP and Lapis Lazuli to enchant an item.

Use Bookshelves to increase enchantment levels

Placing bookshelves around the Enchanting Table will increase the possible enchantment levels of an item. There must be one block of air between a bookshelf and the Enchanting Table for this to work.

Obtain by Fishing

Head out into open water and use your Fishing Rod to catch items with Efficiency enchantments. The Luck of the Sea enchant will increase your chances of catching enchanted items.

Loot from Chests

You'll find Efficiency in Treasure Chests in structures and dungeons around the world. Make sure you're properly equipped with armor and weapons since these areas will be infested with Mobs.

Trade with Villagers

You'll be able to trade items with villagers to obtain Efficiency. Librarians will be your best bet since you can trade Emeralds for enchantments even at Novice levels.

You'll have to level up other Villager types to obtain their enchanted stock.

How to Use Efficiency

Gather More Resources in Less Time

Unenchanted Pickaxe compared to Pickaxe with Efficiency V

Efficiency is an important enchantment for tools since they greatly speed up the time it'll take for you to gather resources. This'll make it less of a chore to go into caves looking for Ores, make chopping Wood from trees much quicker, and several other benefits.

As a result, you can spend more time focusing on crafting or building structures.

Use an Anvil to Level Diamond and Stone Tools to Max

Stone and Diamond tools are capped at Level IV when using Enchanting Tables. To level them to max, you'll have to use an Anvil and combine a Level IV tool with an Efficiency IV Book. You may also sometimes find Level V Diamond tools in chests in Bastion Remnants and the End City.
