How to Get Aqua Affinity
Obtain using Enchanting Tables
EnlargeThe most common way to obtain Aqua Affinity is through an Enchanting Table. You'll need XP and Lapis Lazuli to enchant an item.
Use Bookshelves to increase enchantment levels
EnlargePlacing bookshelves around the Enchanting Table will increase the possible enchantment levels of an item. There must be one block of air between a bookshelf and the Enchanting Table for this to work.
Obtain by Fishing
Head out into open water and use your Fishing Rod to catch items with Aqua Affinity enchantments. The Luck of the Sea enchant will increase your chances of catching enchanted items.
Loot from Chests
EnlargeYou'll find Aqua Affinity in Treasure Chests in structures and dungeons around the world. Make sure you're properly equipped with armor and weapons since these areas will be infested with Mobs.
Trade with Villagers
EnlargeYou'll be able to trade items with villagers to obtain Aqua Affinity. Librarians will be your best bet since you can trade Emeralds for enchantments even at Novice levels.
You'll have to level up other Villager types to obtain their enchanted stock.
How to Use Aqua Affinity
Remove Underwater Mining Speed Penalty
Mining speed difference without and with Aqua Affinity
With the Aqua Affinity enchantment, you'll be able to mine underwater at the same speed as mining on land. This is helpful when exploring Ocean Monuments, underwater ruins, or simply looking for materials, since you can remove more blocks in a shorter time.
Combine with Respiration
A great enchantment to pair with Aqua Affinity is Respiration. It lets you make the most of your faster mining speed since you can stay underwater for longer, resulting in more materials gathered or more distance reached.
