Tips for Building a Base in Minecraft | ||

The first step to building a base is to find a suitable location for your build. For beginners to building, it is best to pick a nice flat area to give you the most freedom in placing blocks. Plains, Desert, and Forest biomes are your best bets for flat foundations.
However, more experienced builders can create bases inside caves, underwater, and even in different dimensions. There is almost no limit to where you can build in the world of Minecraft.
It is highly recommended to build your base near a large open source of water. This is especially important in the earlier stages of game when gathering resources is more difficult. Building near water gives you easy access to far-away islands with a boat.
In order to begin building your base, you'll need to set up a temporary storage near the area. If you have built a temporary starter base close by, you can simply return to this spot to get resources. However if you plan to build a base far from where you store your items, it is best to set up a few chests or shulkerboxes in the area.
Before you can begin building, you also need to make sure the area is right for the build by doing some terraforming. Flattening the ground, hollowing out cave walls, and digging holes for basements are a few preparations you may need to make depending on the style of your build.
This is also why it is best to set up a storage beforehand, so you have a place to store all the dirt, stone, and other blocks you gather as you terraform.
A block palette is the main set of blocks that you will use for your build. This will determine the theme and overall look of you base, so it's important to pick blocks that complement each other.
For beginners, it is best to stick to a regular wood and stone palette. They are easy to use and acquire and look great on any medieval or cottage style build.
More experienced builders may want to experiment with more flashy blocks like concrete, terracotta, and quartz. Though these blocks are harder to obtain, they help deviate your build from the typical Minecraft style.
The last thing you need is a creeper sneaking up on you and destroying all your hard work, so it is best to first mob proof the area to prevent hostile mobs, especially creepers, from spawning. In the Overworld, this can be done by simply lighting up the entire build area.
However, if you are building in the nether, it will be a lot more difficult to mob proof the area. Instead, it may be best to use blocks that mobs like Ghasts can't easily break, like stone, brick, or prismarine.
