How to Find Minecraft Structures

Explore the World of Minecraft

Minecraft Find Strucutres by Exploring

The best way to find different strucutres in Minecraft is to go out and find them naturally as you explore the world. However, some structures are extremely rare and hard to find, so it may take a while before you can find them.

Some structures generate in specific biomes and locations

Some structures only generate in specific biomes and locations. Ocean Monuments only spawn in deep oceans and Dungeons only spawn underground. It is important to explore all areas of the world to find all the structures in the game.

Use the /locate Command

Minecraft Locate Structures Command

Instead of naturally encountering each structure, you can also immediately find a structure with commands in both Java and Bedrock Edition as long as you enable cheats in your world.

In 1.18 and previous versions, you can type "/locate" into the command line and type in the id of the structure you want to visit. In 1.19, the command has been changed to "/locate structure" with a space in between the two words.

Typing in any of the commands will reveal the coordinates of the nearest structure you want to find.

What to Do with Structures

Defeat Mobs and Collect Treasure

Minecraft Loot Structures and Beat Mobs

Many Minecraft structures often hide unique and valuable treasures within. These treasures are sometimes guarded by powerful mobs that roam around the structure.

Your approach to obtaining the loot in the structure is completely up to you. You can kill all the mobs in your way or you can go the more stealthy route by digging your way to the treasure or using a Potion of Invisibility.

Build a Base inside the Structure

Minecraft Build Bases in Structures

Structures are often one of the best places to build a base since they already provide you ample protection from mobs outside. After clearing the structure of mobs, customize the area to fit your needs as a player by adding a bed, storage, crafting area, and other necessities.

You can prevent mobs from spawning inside a structure by simply lighting it up, but this does not work in all instances. Mob proofing structures like Ocean Monuments and Nether Fortresses is significantly more complex.

Turn the Structure into a Farm

Minecraft Build Farms in Structures

Arguably, one of the best things you can do to many in-game structures is turning them into mob farms. There are certain mobs that can only spawn inside specific structures like Guardians in Ocean Monuments or Wither Skeletons in Nether Fortresses, while some spawn more often inside certain structures, like Witches in Swamp Huts.

By turning them into farms, you can obtain these resources with more speed and efficiency than collecting them manually.
