What Kind of Character Are They? | ・Defense Mythic that enables the Reinforcement Hero slot. ・Blessed Aureola grants himself a Preempt Pulse effect and up to two Preempt Pulse effects to allies within 3Rx3C. ・Beyond Reason grants bonus base and in-combat Atk/Def/Res, a damage reduction effect, and post-combat healing. |
Might: 14 Range: 2 Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). Effective against magic foes. For allies within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on unit, grants Atk/Def/Res+5 during combat, and also, if ally's attack can trigger ally's Special, grants Special cooldown count-1 to ally before their first attack during combat, and also, if ally cannot perform a follow-up attack and attack twice, grants Special cooldown count-1 to ally before their first attack during combat. If there is an ally within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on unit, grants bonus to unit's Atk/Def/Res = 20% of unit's Res (excluding area-of-effect Specials), reduces damage from foe's attacks by 20% of unit's Res (excluding area-of-effect Specials), and grants Special cooldown count-1 to unit before unit's first attack during combat. If there is an ally within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on unit and foe uses magic, grants Atk+10 to unit during combat, and also, if foe initiates combat, unit can counterattack before foe's first attack. |
Cooldown Count = 4 When Special triggers, boosts damage by 70% of unit's Res and neutralizes foe's "reduces damage by X%" effects from foe's non-Special skills. If unit cannot perform a follow-up attack and attack twice, grants Special cooldown count-1 to unit before unit's first attack during combat. |
Grants Atk/Def/Res+10. If foe initiates combat or foe's HP ≥ 75% at start of combat, grants bonus to unit's Atk/Def/Res = A + B (A = 2 x number of 【Penalty】 effects active on foe and foes within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on that foe, excluding stat penalties; max 12; B = 2 x current penalty on unit's respective stats; calculates each stat penalty independently), neutralizes foe's bonuses to Atk/Res, and reduces damage from foe's first attack by X% during combat ("first attack" normally means only the first strike; for effects that grant "unit attacks twice," it means the first and second strikes; if foe can make a follow-up attack, X = 80; otherwise, X = 40), and restores 7 HP to unit after combat. |
At start of player phase or enemy phase, inflicts Atk/Res-6 and 【Discord】 on foes with Res less than unit's Res and that are within 2 spaces of another foe through their next actions. Inflicts penalty on foe's Atk/Res during combat = number of foes inflicted with 【Discord】 within 2 spaces of target, including target, × 2, + 4 (max 10) and deals damage = 15% of unit's Res (excluding area-of-effect Specials). |
At start of turn, grants Special cooldown count-1. At start of player phase or enemy phase, if any foes within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on unit have Res less than unit's Res+5, inflicts 【Ploy】 and 【Exposure】 on those foes through their next actions. |
Stat | Superboon/Superbane | IV Recommendation |
---|---|---|
HP (18) | ★★★☆☆ | |
Atk (14) | ★★★★★ | |
Spd (3) | ★☆☆☆☆ | |
Def (8) | ★★★☆☆ | |
Res (10) | ★★★★★ |
◯ = Stat gains +4 with a superboon, ✕= Stat goes down by -4 with a superbane, - = No assets or flaws
See the IV Checker for All Units | Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs |
When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Athos are +Res and -Spd. Athos's base 49 Res is the highest in the game as of the time of his release, and can be boosted to base 53 with a superboon. Res improves his magic bulk while also being the basis for Blessed Aureola's Res checks.
Athos's Spd is a clear dump stat and can be safely taken as a bane as it is too low to salvage.
We recommend +Res when merging Athos up to +10 as it improves his performance the most out of any other stat.

Athos's base kit is already good enough to provide support while also dealing significant damage with Frost Moon. Pre-charge Frost Moon first with Pulse Up:Ploy before attacking.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Athos is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.
Athos's exclusive weapon Blessed Aureola grants effective damage against magic foes, bonus true damage and true damage reduction equal to 20% of Athos's Res, and a Preempt Pulse effect. It also grants a Vantage effect if Athos is facing a magic foe.
Blessed Aureola also grants allies within 3 rows and 3 columns Atk/Def/Res+5, a Preempt Pulse effect if that ally has an offensive Special equipped, and another Preempt Pulse effect if that ally also cannot attack twice or perform a follow-up attack.
Blessed Aureola is a fantastic support weapon, granting Preempt Pulse effects to allies in a wide area and increasing offensive pressure indirectly through faster Special activations.
Athos's exclusive A skill Beyond Reason grants him a flat Atk/Def/Res+10 base stat increase and grants bonus in-combat Atk/Def/Res based on twice the number of 【Penalty】 effects active on the target foe and foes within 3 rows and 3 columns of that foe and twice Athos's current stat penalties.
This is a buffed Unity effect that also grants Athos both base and in-combat stats and also grants other effects.
Beyond Reason also neutralizes the foe's Atk/Res bonuses and grants Athos bonus 40% or 80% damage reduction and 7 HP post-combat healing.
Beyond Reason takes advantage of stat penalties which are very common in today's competitive metagame as well as provides bonus stats and other in-combat effects that are all tied into one A skill, making it a worthwhile skill to equip.
As of the time of his release, Athos is the first and only Defense Mythic Hero that unlocks the extra Reinforcement Slot.
This gives him immense value, as having access to an extra unit on Defense starting turn 3 can be valuable, especially with Safety Fence Lv. 2 being too powerful to not use.
Good units to place on the Reinforcement slot are offensive heroes with long reach such as Brave Felix, Emblem Sigurd, or Emblem Lyn.
Athos provides great support with his Preempt Pulse effect, but his combat is just on par with modern metagame units.
Both Blessed Aureola and Beyond Reason grant effects that are commonly found on modern metagame units such as bonus stats, true damage, and true damage reduction. These are all good, but they're don't set Athos apart from other units offensively.
What sets Athos's combat apart from other units is his magic-effective damage and his Vantage effect against magic foes.
Athos himself is best used as a support unit and should only enter combat if the team's main offensive heroes aren't available.

Athos has Frost Moon, Atk/Res Discord, and Pulse Up:Ploy as inheritable options.
It is possible to acquire all three skills with only one copy of Athos by inheriting the prerequisite skills first. Prioritize Frost Moon as it is only found on Athos as of the time of his release.
