What Kind of Character Are They? | ・Weapon skill grants Def/Res+6 and "neutralizes foe's bonuses" to unit and nearby allies, inflicts stat penalties on foe, grants unit damage reduction based on Def, a Miracle effect, and post-combat healing. |
Might: 16 Range: 1 Effective against flying foes. Grants Def+3. Calculates damage using the lower of foe's Def or Res. At start of turn, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grants Def/Res+6 and "neutralizes foe's bonuses during combat" to unit and allies within 2 spaces of unit for 1 turn. If foe initiates combat or foe's HP ≥ 75% at start of combat, inflicts penalty on foe's Atk/Def/Res = 5 + 15% of unit's Def at start of combat and reduces damage from foe's attacks by 15% of unit's Def during combat (excluding area-of-effect Specials), and also, if unit's HP > 1 and foe would reduce unit's HP to 0, unit survives with 1 HP (once per combat; does not stack with non-Special effects that allow unit to survive with 1 HP if foe's attack would reduce HP to 0). If foe initiates combat or foe's HP ≥ 75% at start of combat, restores 7 HP to unit after combat. |
Cooldown Count = 4 Boosts damage dealt by 80% of unit’s Def. |
If 【Bonus】 is active on unit, grants Atk/Def+X to unit during combat (X = number of【Bonus】effects active on unit, excluding stat bonuses, × 2, + 3; max 7). |
If unit's HP ≥ 50%, unit and foe cannot make a follow-up attack. |

See the IV Checker for All Units | Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs |
When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
As a hero obtainable only through Grand Hero Battle, Marni will always have neutral IVs by default. The only way to access IVs for this unit is through using Trait Fruits.
The best IVs for Marni are +Def and -Spd. Marni's base Def is the highest in the game as of her release at base 50, raised to base 57 with a superboon and equipping Praise-Piner Axe. Marni can easily soak up physical hits and excel as a physical tank for her team.
Marni's Spd is lackluster at only base 20 and as a slow defensive unit, she does not need to invest in her Spd at all. It can be safely taken as a bane.
We recommend +Def when merging Marni up to +10. With maximum investment or merges and dragonflowers, Marni can reach base 62 Def and fully wall off physical attackers.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Marni is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage she deals will be equivalent to her Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Marni's exclusive Praise-Piner Axe has built-in flier effectiveness and adaptive damage, allowing Marni to contribute offensively despite her role as a tank unit.
Praise-Piner Axe grants Marni and nearby allies Def/Res+6 and neutralizes foe's bonuses during combat
at the start of each turn, providing bulk to both herself and her allies at the same time.
In combat, if Marni's foe initiates or has HP ≥ 75%, Praise-Piner Axe inflicts stat penalties onto Marni's foe, grants Marni damage reduction equal to 15% of her Def, and has a built-in Miracle effect, ensuring that Marni can withstand at least one attack every combat.
Praise-Piner Axe also grants Marni 7 HP post-combat healing, allowing her to recycle the Miracle effect over and over again if her foe cannot attack her twice in combat.
Marni's low base 20 Spd leaves her reliant on effects that prevent follow-up attacks such as her base kit's Wary Fighter 3.
Enemies with Null Follow-Up effects will be able to attack twice and potentially leave a huge dent on Marni's bulk using their Specials.
Make sure you equip skills that hinder foe's Special triggers to ensure Marni's survival!
Marni takes 1.5x damage from armor-effective weapons like Randgríðr, and one blow from this type of weapon will deal significant damage. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
Should You Unlock Potential for this Hero? |
---|
We can say with confidence that you should use Unlock Potential to bring Marni - Pining for Praise from 4 Stars to 5 Stars. Marni - Pining for Praise is a very useful physical tank, so we recommend you Unlock Potential for Marni - Pining for Praise if your team lacks a strong physical tank.

Furthermore, her weapon also has a built in miracle effect which outclasses B! Seliph's, meaning she can live on forever as long as the enemy doesn't land a second hit after the effect triggers or neutralizes the effect. This means she's a great counter to some of the dominant metagame monsters like B! Felix (without rare NFU support), W! Edelgard, and E! Ike given they don't have fatal smoke.

We initially have her in 9.0 but are currently testing her out to potentially promote her to 9.5. Our main reason for 9.0 is her lack of an accelerated Special trigger on her weapon, forcing her to equip Emblem Marth's ring and only have Escutcheon for the Shield Fighter build. She could've had Pavise instead if she had an accelerated trigger.
