We highly recommend understanding the HUD (Heads-Up Display) first since they are extensive and essential towards survival and combat. Key elements include the Skyborn Might, Madness, Spells, Weapon and Discipline Skills, Health, Stamina, Red Mercury, Buffs and Debuffs, Compass, and your Items.
These resources are important towards surviving and mastering the gameplay of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Follow our guide above to see an explanation of each HUD element and icon.

Once you have a good understanding of the HUD, it's time to talk about main story progress. In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, there are no map and quest markers available. To progress through the game, you must listen to NPC dialogues and follow the linear pathing of the game to get to where you're supposed to be.
At the beginning of the game, you will wake up near the Reverent Temple. Here, you can speak with specific characters who will urge you to travel through the Shu Sanctum via the Lightzen Temple. This pattern of information gathering continues as you progress, which is why we recommend advancing NPC questlines alongside the main story.

There are a total of 5 weapon types and 4 armor slots in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Furthermore, each weapon has a damage type they specialize on which can be identified by their visual effects such as Slash, Blunt, and Stab. Keep in mind that this effect also appears on enemy attacks.
Combat Guide and Advance Fighting Tips

Each enemy attack has a damage type that can be mitigated depending on your equipped armor such as Slash, Blunt, Stab, Fire, Lightning, Magic, and Feathering. Furthermore, some enemy attacks also have a status buildup that can apply debuffs such as Paralysis, Corruption, Despair, Burn, Frostbite, Poise Break, and Blight.
Make sure to swap out your armor and focus on a specific Mitigation and Resistance to help you survive tough fights.
Combat is inevitable as you progress through the story. Here are some essential terminologies that will help you overcome the difficult encounters that are about to come:
| Term | Effect |
|---|---|
| Skyborn Might | Resource used in casting Spells, Weapons Skills, and Discipline. You can cast Weapon Skills and Discipline without Skyborn Might, but the damage is weaker and the release is slower. For Spells, however, they cannot be cast without Skyborn Might. |
| Swift Draw | Expend Skyborn Might to immediately switch to your secondary weapon while seamlessly executing their Weapon Skills. |
| Shimmer | Dodge at the perfect moment to avoid an enemy attack. This will grant you 1 Skyborn Might. |
| Obliterate | Buildup value until an enemy becomes staggered and vulnerable to an Obliterate Strike. Continue attacking enemies relentlessly or suprise them with a back attack to trigger Obiterate. |
| Alacrity | When hit by an enemy attack while casting, you will automatically dodge while executing the Spell. |
| Clash | Executing attacks at the same time of enemy attacks will deflect incoming damage. Discipline Skills can fully deflect damage, while Light and Heavy attacks only negate a portion of the damage. Kicks and Punches cannot be Clashed. |
| Deflect | Allows you to parry an enemy attack, completely preventing damage. There are only certain moves that can deflect enemy attacks. Kicks and Punches cannot be Deflected. |
| Fleetness | Executing certain moves with this effect will allow you to dodge an enemy attack while also gaining Skyborn Might. |
| Resilience | Renders your attacks more difficult to interrupt. |
| Bladeborn | Increases the speed of your light attacks with Dual Blades. |

The Impetus Repository is the game's skill tree, which will allow you to unlock and activate certain passives, skills, and stats that are essential to progressing through the game. You would need to invest Red Mercuries and turn them into Red Mercury Essences to invest in the different skill nodes.
We highly recommend taking nodes from the Skyborn Skill Tree at the left side of the Impetus Repository first, since it allows you to increase your Skyborn Might cap and will give you additional effects when gaining one. Additionally, this is where you can also upgrade your Manna Vase for more uses and increased health recovery.
Once you have upgraded the left side, pick a weapon you want to main, then make sure you are investing in the Impetus Repository nodes for that specific weapon type. There are 5 main weapon type in the game, namely Longswords, Axes, Spears, One-handed Swords, and Dual Blades.
The most important nodes to prioritize for your weapon would be the Weapon Mastery nodes for increasing damage and certain Discipline Skill nodes that can enhance your gameplay.

Exploring in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has multiple pathways that can lead to a bunch of side content such as unique Armor sets and weapons, and certain NPCs that can give valuable items and progress the storyline.
Make sure to fully explore the area before moving on to the next one so you can reap all the hidden loot you can find. Additionally, this can be useful for achieving the Legendary Collector and Pendant Gatherer trophies for the completionists.
Exploration Guide: Is There a Map?

The main highlight of the game is the difficult enemy encounters that require you to learn their patterns and figure out their weaknesses in order to progress further. Make sure to test out other weapons and spells with different elements and damage types against Bosses to help you find out their weakness so you can have an easier time facing them.

As you explore the land of Shu, there will be tons of areas where certain enemies will ambush you and ruin your run. To avoid this, make sure to use the Lock On feature when entering new areas so you can automatically identify enemies who are lying in wait.
Additionally, we also recommend to dodge before entering a room to anticipate enemies who execute surprise attacks that can also ruin your progression.

As you progress, you will notice black birds with gold feathered tips called Harbinger Cuckoos. Finding one means you are on the right track to progress the story and hitting them will drop Aurum Feathers that can ba used to randomly upgrade either your max health, stamina, or damage for a limited time.
Do note that these Cuckoos usually have an audio cue when one is nearby and will not respawn when killed even when you enter the dream.

Once you encounter He Youzai, he will also mention that he placed Pinwheels along the path that can help guide you towards the right direction.

Keep a look out for your Red Mercury at the top right of the screen since if it glows yellow, that is a sign that you can level up and refine more Red Mercury Essence at the Impetus Repository.

When you encounter statues that have certain riddles when interacting with them, these usually signify that you need to do a specific pose. Doing so will provide you with useful items that can help you as you progress.

If ever you run out of Manna Vases in the middle of exploration, make sure to equip and use healing items such as Steamed Bunny Bun, Raven Pill, and Health Pill. This can be extremely useful especially if you want to heal only a small portion of your health.
There are also items that can fully heal your health such Soulgrass and Cornucopia Elixir. These are very rare items to find so make sure to only use them in emergencies such as difficult Boss fights.

Having at least 90% Madness means that you will have increased damage output which can be useful for taking on Bosses, but also have increased damage taken on yourself. Keep in mind that Inner Demons will not manifest when your dropped Red Mercury is inside a boss area.

You can actually interact with Worship Shrines whenever you are afflicted by a status ailment to alleviate the damage you take until it expires. Keep in mind that you do not need to Enter Dream to do this and you can resume your progress without having enemies respawn along the way.

The Impetus Repistory allows you to instantly respec on any node you have slotted in to easily adjust your build. If you are stuck on a certain Boss, make sure to try out different weapons and elements to help you figure out their weaknesses and eventually defeat them.
Unlike other soulslike games, respeccing has no cost in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers so feel free to change your build whenever you need to.

If you die with max madness and spawn an Inner Demon, we recommend luring the Inner Demon to a group of enemies so they can take each other out. Stay at a safe distance and strike when they are low in health.
Keep in mind that Inner Demons do not spawn in Boss fights so you cannot use this strategy to cheese boss fights.
Inner Demon Manifest Locations and Rewards

While exploring, make sure to equip the Lifesteal Pendant to help you recover whenever you defeat an enemy. This is especially useful when you run out of Manna Vases in hard to reach places with long runbacks so you have other options for healing.

Make sure to smash and destroy jars along the way since they have a possibility to spawn a Mimic Jar. These mimics can drop valuable upgrade items such as Red Feathers for increasing the Weapon Mastery of your main weapon.

Special red-eyed enemies can be found as you explore the land of Shu and can drop valuable items such as armor sets, weapons, upgrade items, and even whole Red Mercury Essences. Although they are tougher than your average encounter, make sure to keep an eye out for these enemies, as their loot is definitely worth getting.
If you are completely low on health, you can double use your Manna Vase to speed up the healing and also skip the animation for drinking the second flask. This is useful for tight situations to help you tank the damage you receive as you gradually heal.
