Enemy weaknesses are rated from 1 to 3, with 3 being extremely effective. An X mark means the enemy is immune against the status effect.

Note that these suggestions are based solely on the boss armor. We will manually test the different damage types as our team progress through the game.
While Honglan has high mitigation against all weapon damage types, Slash and Stabs are the recommended ones to use, since both have lower mitigation values than Blunt.

Lashing Whip
Discipline: Sword Counter Sword Counter Raise your blade to block the enemy's attack. Block at the perfect moment to Deflect the attack instead.
Deflect - Blocking the enemy's weapon at the perfect time deflects the enemy's move fully. |

| Spells | Pendants |
The Lashing Whip is the strongest Longsword you can equip until Commander Honglan. Unlock the Sword Counter node in the Impetus Repository to deflect Honglan's attacks. Equip the Centipede armor set for its high stab and slash mitigation, allowing you to tank more hits during the fight.
The Echo of Lu Bingzhang and the Aurum Feather Force are equipped for their Alacrity, so you'll be able to dodge and back away while casting these spells. Use the Gourd Pendant to reduce damage after falling below a certain HP threshold, the Eagle Pendant for increased stab damage, and the Twin Infant Pendant to boost stamina recovery speed.

These are our recommended builds that we used to defeat Honglan. The Stagger Longsword Build can stagger Honglan whenever her weapon attacks are deflected by the Sword Counter discipline skill. Since most of her attacks can be deflected, using the build can make the fight easier.

Honglan uses her sword for most of her attacks, except for her quick punches. Equipping armor with Slash and Stab mitigation, such as the Ming Armor set and the Centipede Armor set, will reduce the damage you take, helping you survive longer.

Before descending the ladder toward Lotus Pond, use the lone enemy on the rooftop to get Skyborn Might stacks for your weapon skills and spells. It would be extremely helpful to enter the fight with a full stack of Skyborn Might!
It is highly recommended to counter Honglan's sword attacks using the clashing and deflecting mechanics of the game. Deflecting will cause her to stagger, giving you a short window to follow up with an attack or two before she begins her next move, while your weapon against Honglan's sword will allow you to continue your attack and lessen incoming damage. Equip passives and skills that will allow you to activate these counters!
However, note that weapon techniques will not be able to block some of Honglan's attacks where she does not use her sword, such as her quick punches and stomps.
| Weapon Type | Moves with Clashes and Deflect |
|---|---|
| Longswords |
• Sword Counter Discipline • Sword Savant Passive |
| One-Handed Swords |
• Phantom Flurry Weapon Skill • Swift Lunge Discipline Variant II • Flickering Blade Discipline (Pseudo-Deflect) |
| Axes |
• Axe and Hook Passive • Chop and Weave Passive |
| Dual Blades |
• Fearless Cleave Weapon Skill • Block Weapon Skill • Blade Dance Discipline Variant I • Sudden Strike Discipline Variant I • Whirling Flurry Discipline Variant I • Feather Chaser Passive • Leaf Slasher Passive • Wave Breaker Passive • Deadly Shadow Passive |
| Spears |
• Ebb and Flow Weapon Skill • Vortex Thrust Weapon Skill • Spear Flurry Discipline • Spearveil Discipline |
Certain moves like the Flickering Blade can block most of her weapon attacks, negating incoming damage. However, like Clashes, it doesn't stagger Honglan, causing you to miss out on openings from deflecting. It's recommended to swap to a weapon capable of deflecting, like the Longsword, to trigger staggers.
Casting spells with Alacrity just before Honglan hits you will cause you to evade her attack while simultaneously dealing damage from the spell. Just make sure to follow up with a dodge, clash, or deflect, as she can quickly chain her initial attack into other moves.
The Echo of Lu Bingzhang and the Aurum Feather Force are spells with Alacrity. The Echo of Lu Bingzhang can be obtained by defeating Feathered Priest - Lu Bingzhang in Shu Sanctum, while the Aurum Feather Force can be found near the dead body down the stairs to the left of the shrine in Palace Hill.
Use heavy attacks from behind to quickly break her poise and open her up for Obliterate Strikes. The Poise Break Bone Needle can be unlocked in the skill tree to apply Poise Break to your weapon by Temperance.
Honglan can chain these attacks together, forming a wide variety of combos. When she switches to dual blades, she will use moves from when she was using a sword, giving her even more combo options.
| Jump to a Moveset! | |
|---|---|
| 100% HP | HP Reaches 50% |
Honglan usually starts her combo with the Forward Stab to quickly reach you and chain moves from there. When you're near her, she will start her combo with any move except Knife Throw and Forward Stab.
| Moves | Details |
|---|---|
| Forward Stab |
She charges from a distance and quickly attacks with a forward sword strike. This can be dodged, but you have to quickly follow up with another dodge to avoid her next attack. It can also be deflected for a quick stagger. |
| Quick Punches |
She performs two quick punches in succession. It's best to dodge backwards, as you might get caught by dodging in other directions. This is a good time to replenish your health, especially if you're in a good distance, since this move has a short reach. |
| Ground Stomp |
Honglan stomps on the ground, dealing damage to a small area around her. Once she puts her foot up, dodge away from her. |
| Spinning Kick |
Honglan delivers two quick airborne kicks. Dodge backwards, as she can quickly follow this up with another one of her attacks. |
| Spinning Upper Cut |
Honglan spins to build up momentum and delivers a strong Upper Cut with her sword. Dodge backwards so you can keep keep track of her next move. Be careful of a follow up slash. |
| Sword Slashes |
Honglan slahes upward or downward with her sword in a quick dashing motion that can easily reach you. She sometimes executes both attacks in sequence, or repeats the same attack twice. Quickly follow up with another dodge after evading her first slash. |
| Knife Throw |
Honglan performs a side flip while throwing four knives in a cone-shaped spread in front of her. Avoid being too close to Honglan when she performs this move, as you'll take a lot of damage if you're hit with all knives. This can be dodged in any directions. |
She switches to Dual Blades, featuring faster, more dangerous attacks, with some of the sword moves added into her combos.
| Moves | Details |
|---|---|
| Double Wind Slash |
Honglan gathers wind, places both weapons at her sides, and strikes the air, sending visible diagonal slashes toward you from afar. This is her initial attack after switching to Dual Blades. Avoid dodging in front or backwards, as you might get hit by the second wind slash. |
| Vertical Wind Slash |
Honglan gathers wind and places one of her weapons at her side, stiking the air and sending out a vertical wind slash. This can be dodged in any direction except backward. |
| Horizontal Wind Slash |
Honglan gathers wind and raises her weapons above her head, then spins and sends out a horizontal wind slash. This can be dodged in any direction except backward. |
| Diagonal Wind Slash |
Honglan gathers wind and spins once into a crouch position, then sends out a diagonal wind slash. This can be dodged in any direction except backward. |
| Quick Stab |
Honglan charges for a moment and quickly delivers a stab with a short range. Dodge to the side, as dodging backwards might get you caught in her combo. |
| Arc Spin |
Honglan executes a spinning motion with her sword to deliver multiple hits. Dodge sideward to avoid getting hit. |
| Dual Blade Side Slash |
Very similar to her Spinning Upper Cut with the sword, but with dual blades. Best dodged backwards to keep an eye on her next move, but be careful for a follow up. |
| Sword Cyclone |
Honglan performs a deadly sword attack that deals damage in all directions after dashing towards you. Dodge either left or right to keep distance, since she'll dash towards you during the attack. |
| Leap Attack |
Honglan jumps up into the air and strikes with her dual blades upon landing. Dodge forward to reach her back and attack. |

Once you get to the Palace Hill shrine, the Buddha Statue you need to unlock the boss area will be at the end of the path to the left of the shrine. Be careful, as there are a few enemies ahead!
After getting the Buddha Statue, place it in the stone structure to the right of the shrine to unlock the boss arena, Lotus Pond.
