Weapon nodes are primarily responsible for your skills using Greataxes, Longswords, Spears, Dual Blades, and One-Handed Swords. Each weapon has a designated branch in the Impetus Repository.
Weapon Discipline nodes can be slotted onto any weapon of the same type. Weapon Mastery nodes, on the other hand, increase your profiency with the targeted weapon, thus boosting your damage output. Weapon Variant nodes, modify your weapon disciplines.

Temperance nodes unlocks certain Acupoints, buffs you can apply to your weapon using Temperance Needles. Bone Needle Mastery nodes also improve the status attack you can deal with your Tempered weapons.

Stat nodes, as the name implies, buff up your stats depending on the nodes you unlock. Some nodes grant higher points for the same number of Red Mercury Essence, while some can be upgraded further to grant more boosts. These nodes can be found in all branches of the Repository.

Red Mercury Essence is essentially the “skill points” you spend when you unlock and activate nodes in the Repository. You'll need a lot of Red Mercury to be able to unlock every node.
You can also get Red Mercury Essence directly from defeating enemies that give off a distinct purple glow. These enemies can be found in the overworld, but only spawn once per playthrough.
In addition, you can also get 5 Red Mercury Essence if you're able to defeat the tutorial boss, Bai Kru, in Reverent Temple.

It is highly recommended that you prioritize the nodes in the central left path. This path has nodes that specifically improve aspects in your gameplay such as increased Skyborn Might, increased Manna Vase charges, to name a few.
If you want to try out a new weapon or switch up your gameplay, you can respec anytime at the Impetus Repository. You can also do this as many times as you wish because you are fully refunded all the Red Mercury Essence you've used up thus far.
