List of Contents

You can choose your own rules in VS Race! This includes the class, teams, items, COM difficulty, course, and how many races there will be!

While you can race against other players individually, you can also play in team battles in VS Race. This means you can rely on your teammates to win the race, while they also depend on you! Make sure not to hit each other with your items.
You can play as two, three or four teams! Each team has to get as many points as possibe to win!

You can enjoy all of the courses in VS Race! Setting the Course Selection to Open gives you the most freedom in selecting the courses you wanna race in this game mode.

Class is essentially the difficulty of the race as it determines how fast the karts will go. 150cc is the hardest but is also the standard.

You could choose Mirror Mode in the settings, under Class, once you have it unlocked! This mode would also be in 150cc.

One of VS Race's unique features is playing in teams. You can choose to play individually, but you can also play with two, three, or four teams!
In teams, player share their scores and contribute to their team's total score per track. The team with the highest points wins at the end of the series!

In the previous installment, you could make the experience as chaotic as you want by making Bob-ombs the only item you get from Item Boxes. Sadly, that isn't possible anymore in Mario Kart World. You could only set the items to Normal or Frantic.
In Frantic, items are way more randomized making them less balanced. This also means there's a high chance that the items you'll get will be more powerful relative to your position. Powerful items are more likely to spawn in higher ranks, and other useful items will most likely spawn in lower ranks as well!
| Course | Description |
|---|---|
| Random | All courses are random |
| Open | Pick any course you want. It doesn't matter if the course is connected to another one! |
| Connected | You are limited to courses that are only connected to the previous one. This will load the connected version of this track where you have to race to the destination before doing a lap |
This setting affects how you would pick the courses after each race. There are three options, namely Random, Open, and Connected. Random, for example, doesn't even let you pick a course.

This would be the number of races in a series before the points are tallied up to decide the winner! You can pick from three to 32 races!

VS Mode is one of the most consistent ways to unlock specific hidden characters from the Kamek item. The Kamek item is a fairly rare item to get and transforms you into very specific characters depending on your location. Playing on VS Race takes out a lot of the randomness by having the choice to choose specific courses, and stay in a specific spot for a time.

As mentioned above, you can choose which course to race in. This means you can play your favorite connected courses, such as the Peach Stadium to Rainbow Road course, over and over again with your friends and other Mario Kart players!

You can race against your friends and other Mario Kart fans in VS Race without any CPUs! Since you can customize this game mode's ruleset, you can set a 1v1, 1v1v1, 2v2, and 1v1v1v1 race among your group to determine the best Mario Kart racer.
