How to Play 2 Players Banner

Two players can play Mario Kart World in one or multiple Switch 2s from the menu screen. Read on to learn how to play with two players on one and two Switch 2s, plus all the modes that can and cannot be played with two players!

How to Play 2 Players on One Switch 2

Select 2P Multiplayer in Menu Screen

Multiplayer 2P

In the Menu Screen, select Multiplayer and then 2P to play with 2 players on a single Switch 2. Once both players are ready to play, select a game mode and begin racing!

Connect the Controllers

Controllers

You will need multiple controllers when playing in a single Switch 2. You can either share a compatible Joy-Con or compatible Pro Controller to connect to the Switch 2.

How to Play 2 Players on Two Switch 2s

Select 2P Wireless Play in Menu Screen

Wireless Play

In the Menu Screen, select Wireless Play and then 2P to play with a friend who has their own Switch 2 and a copy of Mario Kart World.

2 Player Game Modes

All Game Modes Except Time Trial and Free Roam

List of Playable Modes with 2 Players
Game Mode Explanation
Grand Prix Earn the highest points in all 4 tracks of a chosen cup!
Knockout Tour Reach checkpoints while maintaining a ranking to avoid elimination!
VS Mode Go head to head against other players under a modifiable ruleset!
Balloon Battle Pop the enemies' balloons while protecting your own!
Coin Runners Collect the most coins under a time limit!

Almost every game mode in Mario Kart World can be played during 2 player mode except Time Trials. Note that Free Roam is not available in local multiplayer, but is available in wireless multiplayer with friends.
