Super Star, Lightning and Best

Super Star is one of the strongest items as it makes you invincible for a while. Golden Dash Mushroom is also an excellent item due to its speed boost. Lastly, Lightning is one of the best as it can slow everyone ahead of you down.

These three are the best items you could use to turn the race around in your favor.

Tier List Evaluation

S-Tier Items

Item Effect
Golden Dash Mushroom Golden Dash Mushroom A shiny Mushroom that can be used multiple times for a brief period to give the driver several boosts of speed. Press L repeatedly to activate it.
Lightning Lightning An item that calls down lightning strikes on other drivers, destroying any items they are carrying as well as both slowing them down and shrinking them for a while.
Super Star Super Star An item that makes the driver who uses it faster and invincible for a while and causes any drivers they run into to be sent spinning.

Lightning shrinks everyone ahead of you while destroying all the items they have. Super Star on the other hand makes you invincible all while your speed is increased and every kart you hit will be knocked over. Lastly, Golden Dash Mushroom gives you a speed boost.

These three will guarantee you to get ahead of most of the players when you're behind or will greatly increase your lead

A-Tier Items

Item Effect
Triple Dash Mushrooms Triple Dash Mushrooms A set of three Mushrooms that orbit the driver's vehicle. Press L to use one Mushroom at a time.
Bullet Bill Bullet Bill An item that transforms the driver who uses it into a Bullet Bill for a short time. They'll then rocket along the course and send any other drivers they hit flying.
Mega Mushroom Mega Mushroom A large Mushroom that, once used, enlarges the driver and their vehicle, giving them a boost of speed and allowing them to flatten other racers.
Boo Boo An item that turns the driver transparent for a short time, allowing them to pass safely through dangerous items like Bananas and shells. It also steals items from rival drivers.

Items under the A tier will almost guarantee that you get ahead of a couple of players or increase your lead.

B-Tier Items

Item Effect
Triple Red Shells Triple Red Shells A set of three Red Shells that orbit the driver's vehicle. Press L to throw one Red Shell at a time.
Dash Mushroom Dash Mushroom A tasty item that, when eaten gives the driver a brief burst of speed.
Super Horn Super Horn An extremely powerful horn that knocks back nearby drivers and items.
Hammer Hammer NEW A set of throwable hammers that can be thrown by pressing L repeatedly. Anyone hit will crash.

B Tier items will help you get ahead of a player.

Situationally Good Items

Item Effect
Triple Bananas Triple Bananas A set of three Bananas that orbit the driver's vehicle. Press L to place one Banana at a time.
Triple Green Shells Triple Green Shells A set of three Green Sheels that orbit the driver's vehicle. Press L to throw one Green Shell at a time.
Red Shell Red Shell A vehicle-seeking shell that targets whoever is in front of the driver who threw it.
Spiny Shell Spiny Shell A shell that homes in on and slams into the lead driver. It will keep going even if it hits other racers on its way to crash into the driver in first place.
Fire Flower Fire Flower A powerful item that lets the driver throw fireballs by pressing L. Drivers hit by the fireballs will spin out of control.
Boomerang Flower Boomerang Flower An item that allows the driver to throw a boomerang by pressing L. Drivers hit by it will spin out of control.
Ice Flower Ice Flower NEW A powerful item that lets the driver throw ice balls by pressing L. Drivers hit by the ice balls will spin out of control.
Feather Feather An item that sends the driver high up into the air, allowing them to avoid dangerous items like Bananas and shells. In Battle mode, flying over a rival lets the user steal balloons or coins.
Kamek Kamek NEW An item that summons Kamek, whose magic causes strange things to occur.

Situationally Good items are only good in specific situations and will need some situational awareness to be used effectively.

Niche Items

Item Effect
Banana Banana A slippery obstacle that, if hit, sends the vehicle spinning out of control.
Green Shell Green Shell A dangerous item that travels in a straight line and will send the driver it hits crashing to a stop.
Bob-omb Bob-omb A walking bomb that detonates after a short time or if a driver runs into it. Other nearby drivers can be caught in the explosion.
Blooper Blooper A disruptive item that sprays ink all over rival drivers, making it difficult for them to see for a while.
Coin Coin An item that gives the driver that uses it two coins. Having more coins will increase a driver's speed.
Coin Shell Coin Shell NEW A shiny shell that drops coins and crashes into drivers as it moves along the course.
Question Block Question Block NEW A ? Block that produces coins every time the driver presses L. It also gives a slight speed boost.

These Niche Items are only useful in very specific situations and is rarely useful at all.
