How Many Players Can Play on One Console?
Up to Four Players
Four players can enjoy Mario Kart World in a single Switch 2 console. However, each player needs a controller to enjoy the game.
Two players can enjoy the two joycons, but the remaining two must have their own set of controllers.
Players Will Play on Split Screen
Switch 2's screen will be split according to the number of people playing. Hence if there are four players, the screen will be split into four.
Multiplayer Gamemodes
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Grand Prix | Compete for the top in four different tracks. |
| Knockout Tour | Race for the checkpoints in one long race that encompasses multiple tracks. |
| VS Race | Set the best rules your group prefers in private lobbies, and race for the top. |
| Coin Runners | Get the most coins to win. |
| Balloon Battle | Pop the balloons of your opponents faster than they can pop yours! |
Grand Prix
Race against other players on four tracks, known as cups. Your points will be based on your placements per track and by the end, the player with the most points wins.
This means even if you didn't do well in the first track, you can raise your placement by nailing the rest.
Beat All Cups to Unlock a Hidden Track
There is a special track waiting for you once you beat all seven cups.

Knockout Tour
Knockout Tour is a one long race with multiple checkpoints. Be sure to reach the required placements to qualify, otherwise you'd be eliminated.

VS Race
VS Race is the perfect game mode to enjoy with friends as you can modify its rules. The race will be personalized to everyone's liking.
Coin Runners
Collect as many coins as possible to win. Maximize the available items to eliminate everyone.

Balloon Battle
Protect your balloons all while popping your opponent's in Balloon Battle. Be sure to pick up items across the map to turn the match to your favor. Players who run out of balloons loses.
Steal Balloons With Mushrooms
Bump into an opponent's vehicle with a mushroom to steal their balloon. Use this trick to outlast other opponents in this game mode.

Singleplayer Gamemodes

| Free Roam | Explore the world and discover secret missions and hidden secrets. |
| Time Trials | Race alone to practice and record your fastest time on the tracks! |
Free Roam
You can freely explore the world of Mario Kart World through this game mode! Previously closed roads and bodies of water are now available for you to discover so be sure to check every corner.
How to Play Free Roam

| Clear P Switch Missions | Interact with blue P Switches throughout Free Roam. |
| Take Pictures With Photomode | Enjoy Photomode with your favorite track, vehicle, or character! Be sure to use the game's unique poses, special effects, and frames. You could also share them on social media. |
| Explore With Friends | Invite your friends or other players into your world and explore its secrets. Feel free to take photos together or use it as a lobby while queuing for online matches. |
Press + From the Demo
You can directly go to Free Roam by pressing the + sign at the game's main menu.
Time Trials
Enjoy the tracks alone and record your fastest clears in Time Trials. If you wanna practice against other players, you could download their ghosts by connecting online.
