Best Character Tier List for Online Ranked Meta

Lightweight Characters are Meta

In Online Ranked matches, lightweight characters like Toad and Toadette are currently the most popular.

The main reason for this is that unlike in matches with CPUs, where raw Speed is the most important, the current meta for Online Ranked matches encourages Bagging, a strategy where players attempt to deliberately stay in a low position to gather strong items, then attempt to rush to 1st place on the final lap.

When using a Bagging strategy, the most important stats are Acceleration, which allow a player to recover quickly after being hit by an attack item, as well as Handling, which allows for more reliable execution of shortcuts while attempting to quickly push to the front.

In this meta, lightweight characters have the most effective combination of a Speed which is not overly low, with Acceleration and Handling which are sufficiently high to yield effective results.

The S-tier for Online Ranked consists of the entire class of lightweight charactes, as their high Acceleration and Handling stats lend them well to the Bagging strategy, but they still have sufficient balance to play well on any course, and give them the potential to instead push for a Frontrunning strategy if the situation calls for it.

A-Tier Characters Detailed Tier List

	・High Acceleration and Good Handling stats. ・Speed is lower compared to Middle and Heavyweight

A-Tier characters' stats are more well-rounded compared to S-Tier characters.

It's important to note that A-Tier characters have lower Speed, making Frontrunning less feasible. You must rely on items more to reach first place!

B-Tier Characters Detailed Tier List

B-Tier characters have higher Speed stats compared to the S and A-Tier characters, in exchange for having lower Handling and Acceleration stats.

You can use these characters even if you haven't mastered specific techniques, such as Bagging or Frontrunning, as you can rely on the character's high Speed!

Best Character Tier List for Offline and Time Trial

Bowser and Heavyweight Characters Are Best

As of the game's release, Heavyweight characters and Bowser are the strongest in the game. They have high speed stats which allows them to drive faster on many courses that have straight and long tracks. Hence if you want to stay on top of the current meta, you could use characters like Wario, Donkey Kong and Waluigi who all have similar stats.

Heavy Characters Thrive in Straight Paths

Currently there are multiple tracks that have a lot of straight and long paths. Heavy characters with high speed can abuse this and reign supreme in the current meta, in comparison to lightweight characters.

Waluigi Can Avoid Obstacles More Easily

Although Waluigi technically has the same stats as other heavyweight characters, he is considered by many to have an advantage due to his slender frame; this gives him a smaller hitbox which allows him to avoid shells and other obstacles more easily.
