With the addition of the 1.2.0 Patch, Mario Kart World's Free Roam map will show when you have collected all of a certain type of collectible by displaying the number in gold. This makes it possible to confirm 200 as the definitive number of Peach Medallions currently in the game.

Peach Medallions are a new type of collectible introduced in Mario Kart World, and are only found through exploring the Free Roam Map. Collecting 10 Peach Medallions is necessary for unlocking Mirror Mode.

Each Medallion you obtain gets you a random new Sticker you can use to customize your Kart. Together with milestones such as driving or gliding a specific number of km, collecting a certain number of coins, and doing a certain number of tricks, there are over 400 random stickers that can be obtained.
Sticker List and How to Unlock
Reaching some Peach Medallions can be tricky to reach and you may either fall or overshoot and miss the Medallions.
However, you can use Rewind to re-do missed attempts and try to reach the medallions again!

Most general areas will have binoculars in the vicinity. Use them to check the surroundings for collectibles. You can zoom in up to a certain extent, so keep track of where you're going to go.
