Lightning can shrink the opponents ahead of you in a race in Mario Kart World. Check out all the effects, its changes, and how to protect yourself from Lightning.

Shrinks Other Racers

Mario Kart World - Lightning Effects

Lightning shrinks all your opponents ahead of you in the race. Your opponents will move slower while shrunk.

Destroys Items

Aside from shrinking your opponents, lightning can also destroy the items of the opponents in front of you.

Lightning Changes

Only Affects Characters Ahead of You

Mario Kart World - Lightning Changes

Unlike in previous games, Lightning no longer affects all your opponents. Lightning will only hit opponents that are ahead of you in the race.

Drops Less Coins

Characters will also drop only 2 coins when hit by lightning. In previous Mario Kart games, characters lose 3 coins when struck by lightning.

Only 1 Character Can Have It at a Time

The biggest change to Lightning is that only one character can have the item at a time. If you obtained Lightning, you can breathe easily knowing that no other character has the item until you use it.

How To Deal With Lightning

Certain items can make you invincible and protect you from the effects of lightning. These items include Super Star and Boo.
