When thrown, coins will appear in its trail allowing you to collect coins as a boost. |

For a while, each press of the L Button throws an ice ball. Karts hit by an ice ball will freeze and slow down. |

When thrown, the hammer will parabolically fly forward and can hit your opponents. After they are thrown, they remain as physical obstacles in the track. |

Explodes after a certain period of time or when a kart hits it. Karts caught in the blast will spin or be knocked over.
Change from Previous Games: When a Bob-omb attached to the back of your Kart gets hit, you will no longer be affected by the blast. |

Emits a large sonic blast to knock away nearby karts and items.
Change from Previous Games: All affected players now drop their items when hit. |

Gives you two coins. The more coins you have, the faster your kart becomes.

Your kart will turn invisible for a certain time, and allows you to pass through obstacles like Bananas. Additionally, it also steals an item from another player. |

Shoots ink at all karts in front of you, obscuring their vision for a while. |

Change from Previous Games: You can now access special parts of the course with a Feather. |

Makes you invincible for a while. Your speed is also increased, and any kart you hit will be knocked over.

Lightning strikes all opponents and destroys any items that they're holding. They'll also be shrunk and slowed down for a while.

A Piranha Plant will be attached to the front of your vehicle for a while. When it bites, your kart will also get a small boost. |
The Piranha Plant item no longer shows up as an option when picking up an item box. Although there hasn't been an official statement about its removal, the item was likely removed to avoid confusion, considering that the Piranha Plant is now a playable character.

| Effect | The Fake item Box is designed to resemble a standard item box, but with the symbol inverted. Upon use, it emits a deceptive item box that disables any player who comes into contact with it. |

The Fake Item Box has also been removed and is no longer available in item boxes. It is probable that these items are removed due to balance issues, as players have become adept at identifying a fake item box from a real one.
