Each kart has different stats, strengths, and weaknesses. For complete beginners, it is recommended to start with a kart that has high acceleration and decent handling. Beginners often mishandle turns, so a kart with high acceleration allows you to recover faster from setbacks.
Karts with high speed stats can be tempting, but this is often a trap that beginners fall into. These karts can be too difficult for beginners to handle, causing them to lose control of their karts during races.
When you eventually get the hang of racing, it is ultimately recommended to transition to high speed karts since they are the best combos in competitive game modes in Mario Kart World.

Characters such as Baby Mario have lighter characteristics, making them easier to control. They're great choices for beginners because they tend to have higher acceleration and handling stats, which makes handling corners and recovering from going off-track easier.
Heavy characters, such as Bowser, tend to have higher top speeds and are less affected by collisions with other drivers, making them excel at head-to-head battles. Medium characters, like Mario, fall between the two, offering the most flexibility.
List of Lightweight Characters
Right at the starting line, players can activate a technique called the Rocket Boost, which gives them a burst of speed at the beginning of the race. You can activate it by holding down the acceleration button as soon as the 2 on the countdown stops moving.

Collecting coins increases your kart's speed, so it's essential to collect them. They are scattered all over the track. Some are strewn across the most obvious path, while others are harder to reach and require precise maneuvers. The coin limit in Mario Kart World has doubled from its predecessor, increasing from 10 to 20 coins.
Coins are essential to winning races, but not all of them are worth collecting. Some coins stray too far from the optimal track lining, and trying to grab them may result in lost time. Learn the tracks so you can identify which coins are worth getting and which aren't.
Keep in mind that you can lose coins if you're hit by player items or if you go off track, so try not to lose them.
As with previous titles, collecting coins will unlock playable karts. If your goal isn't to win races but to unlock karts, you can prioritize grabbing every coin on each track.
Players can perform a drift by pressing and holding the R button and using the left joystick button to control it and adjust its direction. This is crucial because it allows you to handle corners better while simultaneously charging a mini-turbo.
Drifting Guide: How to Drift Like a Pro
Mini Turbos provide brief periods of increased speed, with their duration depending on the duration of the drift or Wall Ride. Mini-turbos are crucial for maintaining momentum after a tight turn when used in conjunction with wall riding and drifting.

The Smart Steering feature is great for beginners because it allows players to explore tracks while protecting them from steering errors. It also adjusts for overcorrections made during the race. However, this feature has its downsides.
However, this prevents players from achieving an Ultra Mini-Turbo, which can be detrimental for sections of a course where doing so is the optimal path. It also takes away some of the player's control, as it can prevent them from taking the optimal path if it deems it too risky. This can hinder a player's ability to take more advanced shortcuts.
Should You Use Smart Steering?

In Mario Kart, races are separated into classes that determine the speed of the karts, with higher classes equating to higher speeds. There are three speed classes: 50cc, 100 cc, and 150cc.
It is recommended that you choose 150cc as your speed class because most courses are designed with this speed in mind, making the game feel more fluid. It is also the most popular setting across multiple Mario Kart titles, which leads to a wider variety of opponents in matchmaking.

Most importantly, beginners should focus on learning the layout of the tracks. This takes time and patience. Once players are familiar with the tracks, they can follow the optimal route subconsciously. This frees up their attention to focus on strategy and making adjustments based on their opponents.
It is recommended to practice in Time Trial mode to get get a feel of the tracks and spot some shortcuts that you can practice from other players' Ghosts.
Most techniques will be utilized quite often, and their usage and difficulty will vary from track to track. The difficulty of their execution will vary depending on the track.
It is essential to get used to with all available techniques, both old and new, and to utilize them effectively.

Without any directional input, items will automatically be thrown forward or backward depending on the item. However, you can aim your items in any direction by adjusting your camera angle.
This allows some items to be used offensively or defensively. For instance, you can throw red or green shells behind you to intercept projectiles fired at you. You can also throw banana peels forward to hinder drivers in front of you, provided you have the precision to land them.
Mario Kart World introduced three new techniques: Charged Jump, Wall Riding, and Rail Riding. Use these new techniques alongside the returning ones to gain an advantage over your opponents.
There are plenty of shortcuts in the game that players can use to their advantage. Some shortcuts require items, like mushrooms, to be used, but many can be done without items by using techniques.
List of Shortcuts for All Courses
If you collect items in the same box three or more times, you'll get a weaker item, no matter the rank. Try to drive through different boxes to avoid getting weaker items.
The Lakitu Dash is a technique that is performed when you stop pressing accelerate after you fall of the track. Immediately press A after being picked up and dropped off by Lakitu to gain a short speed boost.

Completing courses and getting stars at a higher CC or difficulty will also unlock stars for the lower CCs as well. For example, getting 3-stars at 150cc will automatically earn you 3-stars for 100cc and 50 cc.
Additionally, getting a star on Mirror Mode, the hardest difficulty, will give you a star for 150cc and below!
Note that earning stars will not unlock anything aside from a visual reminder of how well you completed the courses.

The roulette animation that plays out after selecting the item box can be paused by pressing L, but the contents are not truly random. Your ranking in the race determines the item pool that you receive.
Players in lower rankings will have access to powerful offensive items, while players in higher rankings will receive items of lesser value. The player's choice of item drop and placement will determine the preferred playstyle.
There are two primary strategies for winning races: frontrunning and bagging. While the tactics may differ, the objectives remain constant. Choose the playstyle that best suits your preferences and make adjustments as needed.
Frontrunners assume the lead position and strive to maintain it throughout the race. The most straightforward tactic is also the most common, as it is the natural inclination of people to gravitate towards this playstyle.
Due to the increased number of players in Mario Kart World, frontrunning has become more challenging due to the increased number of items that players must defend against. If frontrunning appears unviable, you may opt for the bagging strategy.
Frontrunning Guide
The bagging strategy involves deliberately lagging in lower ranks to acquire powerful items like the Super Star or Boo. Once the optimal items have been obtained, the player will then attempt to take the lead while saving the powerful items until they are needed.
While it demands a greater degree of skill than the other playstyle, due to the necessity of track knowledge and the optimal usage of items, it can prove to be highly rewarding when executed properly.
