Red Shell Item Effects and Uses

Red Shell Red Shell
Effect Gives your kart a short movement speed boost.
Change from Previous Games:
Will immediately attach to the back of your Kart. Now knocks your opponent forward.

Tracks and Knocks Down Enemies

An Attack item that automatically tracks the enemy ranked in front of you and knocks them down, providing an opportunity to get past them and improve your own ranking.

Does Not Track Enemies When Thrown Backwards

Like most throwable items, it can be thrown backwards by tilting the joystick backwards when using the item. However, the Red Shell does not track enemies when thrown backwards.

Blocks Items From the Back

Once the Red Shell is acquired, it can be attached to the Kart's back to block other Attack Items from enemies such as other Shells.

How to Deal With Red Shell

Block Red Shells by Attaching Items to the Back

Since Red Shells are generally thrown by enemies from behind, it is recommended to block them using items like Bananas and Green Shells by attaching them to the back of the Kart when they are available in the item slot.

What Ranking Does Red Shell Appear At?

Easy to Get at Middle Ranking

The Red Shell is a powerful Attack Item that automatically tracks enemies unlike the Banana and the Green Shell, so it is more likely to appear at the middle ranking.
