Explodes after a certain period of time or when a kart hits it. Karts caught in the blast will spin or be knocked over.
Change from Previous Games: When a Bob-omb attached to the back of your Kart gets hit, you will no longer be affected by the blast. |

Press the L button to throw a Bob-omb. Throw it at the player directly in front of you to knock them up, disabling them for a short time. A direct hit will damage the player but If you miss, the Bob-omb will stay in place for a few seconds before exploding.
You can throw a Bob-omb not only forward but also backward. If an opponent is about to overtake you, throw a Bob-omb at them to keep them at bay. This way, you can maintain your lead.
After a few seconds on the ground, the Bob-omb will explode, knocking up anyone caught in its radius. This can be useful for blocking a section of a track for a short time, as it can be placed in key locations, such as where items spawn or shortcut routes are located.
Be sure to swerve past any Bob-Ombs you see in the track. They explode after a few seconds making it easier to avoid them. Players in front of you may throw some Bob-ombs as well, hence it's best to stay vigilant.
Items like Super Horn and Shiny Star will protect you from Bob-omb as the former will deflect any nearby items, and the latter will make you invulnerable.
The Bob-omb is a fairly strong item that can turn the game around, so it will most likely appear in the middle rankings.
In previous titles, there was an inherent risk in throwing a Bob-omb backwards because the explosion could affect the player who threw it. Now that the explosion no longer affects the user, it can be used safely, even at point-blank range.
This also makes it safe to use as a rear shield, so you can hold on to it if you wish to use it strictly as a defensive option.
