When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Atk/-Spd

The best IVs for Dorcas are +Atk and -HP. This maximizes the overall damage he deals in both phases so it is a no-brainer to take this IV. He can score follow-up attacks with Quick Riposte 3 so even a small change in Atk means big damage. Since follow-ups are guaranteed and his Spd is unreliable anyway, it is best if his bane is Spd.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Atk IV when merging Dorcas to 10. This is for the same reasons as above. If you prefer a more defensive Dorcas, you can go for +Def stat for a full-on physical wall build or take advantage of the Res superboon to balance his defensive stats and take a +Res IV. Defensive stats are ideal for overall survivability.

Stout Tomahawk's special effect refine retains Dorcas's ability to counterattack regardless of foe's range and provides much needed stat boosts during combat to help him keep up with the current meta's higher stats. In addition to this, the special effect refine applies a Atk/Def-5 on the opponent and neutralizes their bonuses during combat. This allows Dorcas to perform his role as a physical tank or bruiser unit much better.

Dorcas is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Dorcas Strengths

Built-in Distant Counter

Stout Tomahawk enables counterattack regardless if the foe is ranged. This is mainly an enemy phase weapon, but that is the essence of Dorcas—an enemy phase powerhouse. This is the base of his kit and his other skills just improves on his ability to counterattack regardless of range. Do not hesitate using Dorcas to charge in at the enemy danger zones to try and bait attacks!

Great damage boost in the enemy phase

Fierce Stance 3 grants Dorcas +6 Atk during combat when a foe engages him in combat. This solidifies his ability as an enemy phase unit and since he has access to Distant Counter through his weapon skill, Fierce Stance 3 can be easily relied upon for consistent damage.

Since Dorcas has Quick Riposte 3, the effectiveness of Fierce Stance is basically doubled as the +6 Atk will land upon the enemy twice. If Stout Tomahawk is Dorcas' bread, Fierce Stance and Quick Riposte make up the butter!

Speeds up the special cooldown of allied infantry

The C skill Infantry Pulse will reduce the cooldown count of infantry units at the start of the first turn. This will work on all allies whose HP is lower than Dorcas', and it stacks with other similar skills, meaning it can be paired with Heavy Blade or Breaker weapons. When used with allies that have low-cooldown skills like Moonbow, Glimmer, and others, you can aim to take out a priority target in the early stages of a battle!

Dorcas Weaknesses

Durability needs to be supplemented

Dorcas is mainly an enemy phase unit, but his durability is not cut for when dealing with high-powered units. Make sure you supplement his defenses through merges, dragonflowers, buffs or even Sacred Seals as he needs to be taking attacks to harness his full potential. Vulnerable to follow-up attacks!

Another problem of Dorcas is follow-up attacks. He may be taken out by the enemy before the 2nd hit from Quick Riposte 3 kicks-in especially if he is up against red units. We reiterate that you buff his defenses as he is mainly an enemy phase unit.
