Fan favorite items such as the Bullet Bill, Boo, and more return once again in Mario Kart World! Check out how their effects have changed as well as the other items that are making their return!

Three Green Shells will orbit your kart that you can launch in a straight line.
Change from Previous Games: Faster speed boost. |
The Banana can be thrown or placed down to spin the Karts that drive over it.
The Banana will now be automatically trailed behind your Kart once you get it.
Bob-omb is an item that can either be thrown to directly hit another racer or be simply dropped as a trap.
Previously, if you drop it and it instantly gets triggered by another racer, its blast will also affect you. In Mario Kart World, the Bob-omb's blast will not affect you when doing so, allowing you to freely use it as a deterrent.
Boo will turn your Kart invisible for a certain time, allowing you to pass through obstacles like Bananas without getting affected. Passing other racers while in this form will also let you to steal items from them.
The duration of this item's effect has been greatly reduced compared to before. Also, your Kart will turn semi-transparent instead of completely transparent for visual purposes.
While this item is in effect, you will throw boomerangs that will spin other Karts that are hit. The maximum number of boomerangs that can be thrown was previously 3 but it has been increased to 4 in Mario Kart World.
Using this item will make you transform into Bullet Bill and speed along the course without requiring any input. Previously, any Karts you hit during this effect will knock them over but now it will simply push them away.
Using the Coin will give you two coins. Picking up coins grants you a slight speed boost. While this item has not been directly changed, the speed boost granted when picking up coins has been lessened, indirectly affecting this item.
While this item is in effect, you will be able to throw fireballs that will spin other Karts that are hit. The maximum number of fireballs you can throw while this item is in effect was previously 10 but it has been reduced to 8 in Mario Kart World.
While this item is in effect, you get a speed boost similar to a Mushroom's speed boost every time you press the L button.
Previously, this item was rather hard to come by but it is now a lot more common in Mario Kart World!
The Green Shell can either be used offensively by throwing it to knock over another racer or be used defensively by trailing it to deter items used on you.
Like the Banana, the Green Shell will now be automatically trailed behind your Kart once you get it.
Instead of targeting every racer, it now only targets racers who are ahead of you. This provides not only you, but also the racers who are behind you, a chance to catch up!
However, the time needed to recover by the struck players has also been shortened compared to before, so be wary! The coins dropped by the struck racers have also been changed from 3 to now 2.
Lastly, only one person can hold this item at a time.
Using the Mushroom will give your Kart a short speed boost. The speed boost given by the Mushroom has been greatly increased in Mario Kart World.
Using the Red Shell will home in and knock over the racer in front of you.
Like the Banana and the Green Shell, the Red Shell will now be automatically trailed behind your Kart once you get it.
While this item is in effect, you will be faster and be invincible. Any Karts you hit will also be knocked over.
The speed boost from this item has been decreased and it seems to be a lot rarer to get this item now.
Similar to the Mushroom, the Triple Mushrooms now have an increased speed boost.
