Nornir Chests (Rune Chests) are collectibles in God of War: Ragnarok (GoW: Ragnarok) that contain either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead. Read on to see the full list of all 35 Nornir Chests, their locations, and how to solve them.

Well of Urd Nornir Chest

Location: Found along the path going up to the Well of Urd. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

This chest is unlocked by lighting braziers with your Blades of Chaos. The first rune is in front of the chest, up on some snowy rocks.

The second rune can be found by chain grappling your way to the top of this area. It will be resting on a mountain face.

The third rune can be found by dropping from the top down to a ledge below, where the brazier will be resting under one of the grappling spots.

The Oarsmen Nornir Chest

Location: Found in The Oarsmen region. Burn some bramble, then jump over a gap, and then head down some stairs to get to an underground room where this chest is. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You will need to quickly ring three bells by throwing your axe. The bells are all in the same room as the chest.

Raider Hideout Nornir Chest

Location: Found underground, in the Raider Hideout. Head a bit south from The Eternal Campfire to find the entrance to the Raider Hideout. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

The first rune can be found to the left of the chest. Use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos to burn the obstacles, and then once again use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos to light up the brazier.

The second rune can be found to the right of the chest, in a crack in the wall. You will need to find an exploding hot coal, then throw it into the crack to light the second rune.

The third rune is hidden in a chasm near the entrance to this room. Look into the chasm and the rune will be on the other side. You will need to link Sigil arrows together and throw the exploding coal at the Sigils to form a chain reaction that lights up the brazier.

The Lost Treasury Nornir Chest

Location: Found near the entrance to The Lost Treasury, southwest of Tyr's Temple. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

The first rune is hidden behind the shield. move the shield over to the left to see it, then use Sigil Arrows and Blades of Chaos to light it.

The second rune is up on the second level. Climb up the shield to get here, and use Sigil Arrows and Blades of Chaos to light it.

The third rune is inside the Lost Treasury, to the right of the entrance. Once again, use Sigil Arrows and Blades of Chaos to light it.

How to Solve The Lost Treasury Puzzle

To unlock this chest, you will first need to solve the puzzle to enter The Lost Treasury.

1	First, climb the shield to the right side and make the pillar with the red symbol topple over.
2	Head back down to the ground, and move the shield over to the left side.
3	Climb up, and move the fallen pillar to the left with your Blades of Chaos.
4	Jump back down and move the shield back to the right, letting it get caught against the pillar you moved.
5	Finally, spin the gear, and use Sigil arrows to freeze the two locking mechanisms on the left and right side with your Leviathan Axe.

Aurvangar Wetlands Nornir Chests

Nornir Chest #1

Location: Found in a Nornir Chest in the Aurvangar Wetlands. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Two runes can easily be seen behind the chest, and to the right of the chest. To find the third one, you will need to freeze a nearby geyser, chain grapple up to a higher platform. The third rune will be resting beside a tree.

Nornir Chest #2

Location: Found in northwest Aurvangar Wetlands. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Freeze a nearby geyser to find the first rune and spin it until it matches a rune on the chest. From the geyser, turn left towards a bridge-like structure to find the next rune and spin it to match as well.

Go to the upper level on the opposite side to find the last rune on top of a rocky structure and spin it to match the last rune on the chest.

Dragon Beach Nornir Chest

The first rune will be hidden behind a geyser behind the chest. Freeze the geyser to find it. The second rune will be hidden behind another geyser to the right of the chest. The third rune will also be hidden behind another geyser close by the second rune.

Alberich Island Nornir Chest

Location: Found on Alberich Island. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

The first rune is easily found right behind the chest. The second rune will be attached to a crane in front of the chest. Instruct Atreus to hit the crane with his bow. The third rune is attached to another crane that can be lifted by hitting a spinning wooden panel with your axe.

Radsvinn's Rig Nornir Chest

Location: Found at Radsvinn's Rig. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Light the brazier marked with a rune directly to the left of the chest on fire using the Blades of Chaos. Turn right from the chest and cross the gap, and you will find the second brazier marked with a rune between some wooden planks to your left and light it on fire as well.

To find the last brazier, turn around from the chest and you will see it behind a cage-like structure beside an explosive pot. Grapple up to the upper level and use the Leviathan Axe to make the pot explode and light the last brazier on fire.

Jarnsmida Pitmines Nornir Chest

Location: Found in the Jarnsmida Pitmines. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Light the brazier marked with a rune directly to the left of the chest on fire using the Blades of Chaos. Turn left and go down to the lower level, and turn left again to find the next brazier. Take note of its location.

From the second brazier, turn left and swing across the gap to find the final brazier and light it on fire. Go back across the gap to the second brazier and use the Leviathan Axe to freeze the water pouring on it from above, then light it on fire.

The Forge Nornir Chest

Location: Found close to the starting point, after getting off the train. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You will need the Draupnir Spear for this. Throw the spear into three rune idols and trigger it to unlock the chest.

The first rune will be to the left of the chest, on some rocks. The second rune will be on a small rocky mountain behind the chest. The third rune will be back along the path you came from, on a rock with collapsed train carriages.

Myrkr Tunnels Nornir Chest

Location: Seen along the main path in Myrkr Tunnels, after getting out of a crawl space from the room with water troughs. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

The first rune is on a brazier to the left of the chest. Hit the oil barrel to spill oil, and use the Blades of Chaos to set the area on fire.

The second rune is on a brazier directly in front of the chest. Use your Blades of Chaos to light this one.

The third rune is in one of the alcoves of the hallway you came from. Break the crates blocking the alcove and light the brazier.

The Applecore Nornir Chest

Location: Found in The Applecore. Re-enter this area from the raft at the beginning of Aurvangar Wetlands. The Draupnir Spear is required to unlock this chest. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Throw the spear into the wall to get up to where this chest is. You must hit three rune idols with the spear, then detonate all of them at the same time to unlock the chest.

The first rune and the second rune are suspended on wooden platforms across the gap.
・The third rune is found by climbing up two ledges, then turning around.

Nornir Chest #2

Location: Found in The Applecore. Re-enter this area from the raft at the beginning of Aurvangar Wetlands. The Draupnir Spear is required to unlock this chest. This chest is found deeper into The Applecore, behind some golden barriers you have to destroy by hitting the flammable pot behind it. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You must hit three rune idols with the spear, then detonate all of them at the same time to unlock the chest.

The first rune is located to the southeast across the gap, behind a waterfall. The second rune is located just around the corner in a hallway. The third rune is located a bit to the west, behind some golden barriers you will need to explode.

The Strond Nornir Chest

To open this chest, you will need to light three braziers with your Blades of Chaos. The first two can easily be found nearby the chest. The third brazier can be found by chain grappling up the ledge in front of the chest, climbing up two more ledges, then looking down over the ledge to the left.

Nornir Chest #2

Location: Can be found along the path in The Strond. You can only unlock this chest once you've obtained the Draupnir Spear. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

With the Draupnir Spear, hit all the Rune idols then trigger all of them at the same time.

The first Rune can be found right next to the chest. The second rune is a distance in front of the chest, up on a rocky hill. The third rune can be found around the corner, across a chasm by the bridge.

Temple of Light Nornir Chest

The first rune can be found on top of a balcony-like structure to the left and above the chest. The second rune can be found directly to the left of the chest. The last rune can be hit by aiming your axe at the Twilight Stone through the doorway on the right of the chest. Make sure you clear the Soundstone on it beforehand. Quickly hit all three runes to unlock the chest.

The Below Nornir Chest

Location: Found inside the Dark Elf Cave in the Below. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Make sure to unlock the wooden doors near the chest and on the level above the chest.

Start with the first rune at the upper level, hanging on a window, then go down and hit the second rune behind the chest, then the third rune through the doorway near the chest. Quickly hit all three runes to unlock the chest.

The Barrens Nornir Chest

Location: Found in a pavilion in the northern part of the Barrens. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

The first rune brazier can be found in front to the left of the chest. The second rune brazier is found behind the pavilion. While behind the pavilion, use the Leviathan Axe to clear the Hive Matter. Go back to the front of the pavilion and look up to the roof, and use the Axe to make the pot next to the last rune brazier explode and light it on fire.

The Forbidden Sands Nornir Chest

Location: Northeast of the Forbidden Sands. You can enter this area after progressing through the Secret of the Sands favor and calming the sandstorm. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

After calming the storm, destroy part of the wall of the building in the northeast, and head in. The chest will be at the end. Solve the puzzle by throwing your axe into the left crystal.

The first rune will be across the gap to the right of the chest. Use Sigil arrows to make a fire chain reaction from the campfire to the rune.

The second rune is hidden behind a hive wall above the first rune. The hive wall can be retracted with Sonic arrows. Use Sigil arrows to make a fire chain reaction from the first rune to the second rune.

The third rune is on the left side of the chest, across the gap. Simply stoke the fire with an arrow to light the brazier.

Nornir Chest #2

Location: Southwest of the Forbidden Sands. You can enter this area after progressing through the Secret of the Sands favor and calming the sandstorm. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

After calming the storm, head southwest to find the chest. The first rune will be in front of the chest, on a pedestal. The second rune is up on a huge rock formation. Use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos to reach it. The third rune will be opposite the second rune, on a high rocky pillar. Use Sigil arrows to reach this one as well.

The Southern Wilds Nornir Chest

Location: Found along the main path in the northern part of The Southern Wilds. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You will have to hit three spinning paddles with your axe to make the correct Runes show. The first one is located to the left of the chest, up on some rocks.

The second is found to the right of the chest. Burn the bramble with your Blades of Chaos. The last one can be found backwards, into the path you came from. It will be sitting up on some rocks, hidden behind bramble that you need to burn.

The Abandoned Village Nornir Chest

Location: Found under the bridge after getting to the other side of the bramble puzzle in western part of The Abandoned Village. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You will need to light up braziers to open the chest. The first two will be found around the rotating crane and can only be lit by swinging the burning pot around. The third brazier can be found in front of the chest and can be lit with your Blades of Chaos.

Cliffside Ruins Nornir Chest

Location: Found a little forward from the shore, after disembarking onto Cliffside Ruins. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

You will need to hit three spinning paddles with your axe to reveal the correct runes. The first rune can be found to the right of the chest, around some rocks. It is hidden behind red bramble that will require you to use the Sigil arrow and Blades of Chaos combo to burn down.

The second rune is hidden behind rocks to the left of the chest. You will need to climb up to the platforms above to see it. To get to the third rune, you will need to ride a zipline to the other side of the lake. It wil be easily visible on the water from there.

The Veiled Passage Nornir Chest

Location: Found immediately as you enter The Veiled Passage. To reach this area, you must first get rid of the stone gate blocking the river leading south. This is solved in the Cliffside Ruins. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

To unlock this chest, you will need to ring three rune bells at the same time. All three bells are located on the other side of the river.

To ring them at the same time, you must cover all three bells with Sigil arrows, then pick up the burning coal behind you and throw it at the sigils to make all bells explode. Note that you can place Sigil arrows in only three spots, but you can make each Sigil spot bigger up to three times.

Goddess Falls Nornir Chest

Location: Found at the top of Goddess Falls. Simply climb the rock face to get to the top and the chest will be in view. To reach Goddess Falls, you must first get rid of the stone gate blocking the river leading south. This is solved in the Cliffside Ruins. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

To unlock this chest, you will need to light three rune braziers. These braziers will be out of reach, so you will need to use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos to cause a chain reaction.

The first brazier is located immediately to the right of the chest. Fire Sigil arrows on the rocky platforms that lead up to the rune. The second brazier is located at the top of waterfalls to the left of the chest. Fire Sigil arrows on the exposed bits of rock coming out of the waterfall. The third brazier is located to the far left of the chest, on the mountain wall. Fire Sigil arrows along the rock face to reach the rune.

Eastern Barri Woods Nornir Chest

Location: Found in Eastern Barri Woods. This area is accessible only upon returning to Vanaheim in the story for the second time. Rewards: Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

To unlock this chest, you will need to hit three spinning paddles to reveal the correct runes indicated on the chest.

The first rune is found immediately to the left of the chest. The second rune is found when facing south. It is chilling out by the foliage. The third rune is found by going down a path to the southwest. It is located far across a chasm, in a gazebo.

The Plains Nornir Chests

Hit three bells quickly to unlock this chest. The first bell is found behind the chest, behind some rocks. The second bell is found up on some rocks to the left of the chest. The third bell is found on top of the rocky hill behind the chest. You will need to go around the hill to see it.

Nornir Chest #2

The first rune is found up on some rocks to the west. The second rune is found in a hole in a tree to the southeast. The third rune is found right behind the chest, behind a statue. Disable the poison plant to see this rune.

The Jungle Nornir Chest

To unlock this chest, you will need to hit three spinning paddles to reveal the correct runes indicated on the chest.

The first rune is found on a high platform to the right of the chest. The second rune is found to the northeast, obscured by mushrooms. Use the Blades of Chaos to uncover this. The third rune is found on the second floor of the short tower, facing the north. Get up on a platform to the east to see this rune.

The Sinkholes Nornir Chests

The first rune is found to the left of the chest, on the cave wall. Use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos to reach it. The second rune is found to the right of the chest. Use Sigil arrows and Blades of Chaos again. Hop up onto a higher platform and look up to the southeast. The third rune will be high up and can be reached with several Sigil arrows.

Light three braziers with Blades of Chaos to unlock the chest. Use Sigil arrows to extend your reach if the braziers are too far away.

The first rune is found immediately to the right of the chest, up on some rocks. The second and third runes are located across the gap in front of the chest.

To get the second rune, move to the side to get a better view of it, and use Sigil arrows to light a path to the brazier. To get the third rune, use Sigil arrows to make a path from the second brazier to the third one. Then, stoke the second brazier with an arrow to make a chain reaction towards the third one.

All Niflheim Nornir Chests (Rune Chests)

Aesir Prison Wreckage Nornir Chest

The first rune is found right in front of the chest, to the corner of the room. The second rune is found in a room one floor down. The third rune is found on the bottom floor, at the very center of the area.

What Are Nornir Chests?

Source of Idunn Apple or Horn of Blood Mead

Nornir Chests are special locked chests that contain either an Idunn Apple, which boosts your health, or a Horn of Blood Mead, which boosts your rage bar.

Nornir Chests can only be opened by finding and destroying the runes marked on the chest. These runes are usually found scattered in the area surrounding the chest.
