General Tips

Use the Draupnir Spear to destroy its footholds

At some point the Ash Tyrant will start flying around. It will then land on a pillar which can be destroyed using the Draupnir Spear.

Be aware of your surroundings

The Ash Tyrant will spawn draugr for Kratos to fight and distract him. Only focus on them when the Ash Tyrant flies around.

The Ash Tyrant Attack Patterns

Fire Breath Projectiles

The Ash Tyrant always starts the battle by using its fire breath in bursts of two. Both of these projectiles can be parried by Kratos or easily dodged.

Fire Breath Area of Effect

A different variation of Ash Tyrant's fire breath is its area of effect move. The move is blockable, but not cannot be parried.

An effective way to damage the Ash Tyrant is to dodge to its backside as its attack does not reach there. Kratos can deal a little bit more than damage than compared to just blocking.

Unblockable Fire Breath

The Ash Tyrant's unblockable attack can be identified by a preemptive red ring. The attack moves vertical so dodging sideways is the best option.

Kratos will still get hit if he dodges backwards.

Claw Attack

One of the Ash Tyrant's only physical attacks is it tries to maul Kratos with its claws. This attack cannot be blocked as it cuts straight into a QTE sequence if you players just block it. However, it can be parried which leads to staggering.
