God of War (2018) Guide & Walkthrough Wiki
Since a significant amount of time passed after the previous game, Atreus, who is now grown up and has been learning from Kratos, now acts independently to the point where he can hold onto his own.
Players can expect to have more interactions with Atreus as he'll have new expanded companion action and his unique own combo abilities and magic.
As seen in the Reveal Trailer, Kratos can now ride sleds drawn by two wolves across the frozen Lake of Nine! It seems that the sled is only usable in the snow-covered Midgard, as the other realms shown in the trailers are unaffected by Fimbulwinter.
Kratos can now use their blade to grapple and traverse through different obstacles in the game or use it as a mobility tool during combat. In the previous game, Blades are only used as a traversal tool or to trap Winds of Hel and burn Hel's Brambles outside combat.
One of the mechanics featured for God of War Ragnarok are Combo Finishers, where players can build up a stun meter using combos, which can lead to different ways to end your opponent, such as decapitation.
You can choose which weapon you want to use to kill your opponents, with each most likely having different animations for the Combo Finisher, as seen in the trailers.
Kratos can now jump off a ledge and into enemies to perform a Pre-Fall attack. Players can perform different types of Pre-Fall attacks depending on the weapon they have equipped.
As seen from the Combat and Enemies Elevated trailer, when using an axe, spears of ice shoot up from the ground and impaling his enemies, while using his own fist throws them up on the air from the shockwave Kratos emits.
Dauntless Shield | Stonewall Shield |
---|---|
Two new shields have already been shown in the Reveal Trailer: the Dauntless Shield, which specializes in parrying, and the Stonewall Shield, which specializes in blocking. Players can switch between the different shields to suit the current situation or their preferred playstyle.
The new shields also store charges for each successful action, depending on their specializations, which Kratos can consume to unleash a powerful attack.
Kratos can now use his weapons' elemental attacks, Frost Awaken (Leviathan Axe) and Whiplash (Blades of Chaos), by pressing or mashing the Triangle button. This allows Kratos to inflict Frost or Burn damage quickly without using Runic Attacks or weapon skills that require extra steps before they can deal elemental damage.
As Kratos and his companions travel through the different realms of Yggdrasil, they'll encounter enemies, each with a unique theme that fits the realm they currently reside.
Players can look forward to fighting against varying types of enemies throughout the game, from tiny creatures to large enemies that fill up the entire screen.
