How to Unlock the Compass

Unlocks at Nidavellir

GoW Ragnarok - Getting the Compass
The Compass is given by Sindri once Kratos exits the Nidavellir Tavern.

Unlike like most games God of War Ragnarok does not have a compass at the very start of the game. The first chapter of the game, Surviving Fimbulwinter, is a liner section without the need for a compass

How to Use the Compass

Point at the Direction of the Objective

Like most Compass, all players have to do is point themselves in the direction of their objective and go towards it. The compass will also show the distance between Kratos and the point of interest.

Points Towards the Shortest Path

The compass will actively move around when heading towards a waypoint. This is not a bug but instead the shortest path towards an objective.

While it is not apparent when travelling in the open sea. The compass is a great way to navigate tight corridors.

Set Waypoints

GoW Ragnarok - Waypoints

To highlight your chose objective, use waypoints on the map. Press Triangle (PS4 - Triangle Button.png) on any objective in order to set a waypoint.

Use Navigation Assist

GoW Ragnarok - Accessibility

When pressing R3 (PS4 - R3 Button.png) Navigation Assist will orient the camera to the direction of the selected objective.


Navigation Assist can be turned on in the Accessibility tab in the Settings menu.
