Take on the Muspelheim Trials, the combat crucible in God of War Ragnarok. Here is all of the the info on how to unlock, & how to complete the trials and the rewards for completing them.
List of Contents
To unlock the Trials of Muspelheim, you have to find two of the Muspelheim Seeds that can be found in Svartalfheim. While you'll be able to easily collect the first half, getting the second half involves progressing through the story quest until you reach the part where you unlock the Draupnir Spear to access an unreachable terrain.
How to Unlock the Draupnir Spear
The first half of the Muspelheim Seed can be found inside a legendary chest early on in the game during the quest "The Quest for Tyr". They can be found at Modvitnir's Rig at Svartalfheim. Follow the path and climb up the wooden structure to get to the chest.
The Quest for Tyr Quest Walkthrough: How to Solve the Mine Puzzle
The other half of the Muspelheim Seed can only be obtained once you've acquired the Draupnir Spear, which is obtainable later in the story. Once you get the spear, head back to Svartalfheim and use your boat to go to the Dragon Beach.
This will allow you to use the Draupnir Spear to cross a previously unreachable terrain to get to the chest containing the other half.
Once you have both the Muspelheim Seeds, head to a Mystic Gateway to unlock The Crucible in Muspelheim. Travel there, and you'll be able to finally challenge the Trials of Muspelheim.
It's recommended, however, that you only take on the trial once you have the gear, as this is considered endgame content. If you aren't prepared, you can always finish the main quest before you attempt to take on the trials.
Once you arrive at The Crucible, you will find a locked Nornir Chest at the center of the arena. To unlock the chest, you will have to take on 6 different challenges by interacting with all 3 swords in the area.
Each sword will contain 2 different challenges and has its own win conditions. Completing all 6 trials will finish "The Crucible" favor and unlock the chest.
Trials | Rune | Conditions |
---|---|---|
Weapon Mastery | F | Defeat all enemies within the time limit. |
Flawless | F | Avoid taking damage. |
Ring Out Challenge | N | Opponents rapidly regenerate from any damage. |
Feed The Rift | N | Throw orbs into the realm tear to close it before time runs out. |
Population Control | R | Kill the elite while keeping the population under the limit. |
King of the Hill | R | Keep enemies out of the rings until the time expires. |
Once you get your reward from the chest, another sword will appear at the center of the arena. Interacting with the sword will assign you the "The Final Challenges" favor, where you need to complete 6 additional Crucible challenges.
You'll also unlock a new trial for each of the previous swords, giving you a total of 15 trials you can take in the Crucible.
Trials | Rune | Conditions |
---|---|---|
Rampage | F | Defeat at least 20 enemies within the time limit. |
Health Steal | N | Take constant damage, but recover health by dealing damage. |
Kill Fuse | R | Rapidly kill enemies to increase the timer. |
You need to combine 2 different runes to unlock the final 6 challenges for the Crucible. The runes you need are on the interactable swords, which will contain a rune, either F, N, or R, and completing a challenge for that sword will give you the rune it corresponds to. Combine two separate runes together to unlock a final challenge.
For example, if you complete a challenge with the sword with the letter N and the one with F, you'll unlock the NF final challenge. The runes you need to combine will be on the floor around the central sword.
Trials | Combination | Conditions |
---|---|---|
Endurance Challenge | FN | Survive. |
Boss Rush Challenge | RN | Defeat a series of challenging enemies. |
Shield Breaker Challenge | FR | Kill gruns to break the Elite enemy's shield. |
Ring of Fire Challenge | NF | Stay within the ring. |
Onslaught Challenge | NR | Survive until the time elapses. |
Phantom Challenge | RF | Defeat all enemies. |
Trials by FireTrophy
Once you've finished the last of the final challenges, the favor "The Final Challenges" will be finished, and you'll be awarded "Trials by Fire" trophy.
