You will encounter events with button prompts as early as the prologue that will require you to push specific buttons within a timeframe.
These can determine the outcome of a fight, like how you gradually lose health against Freya if you miss or took too long to press the correct button, so keep an eye out for these and react quickly!

As soon as you're able, pull up the Settings menu and bind the Navigation Assist on your Touch Pad shorcuts. Using it while exploring moves the camera to your next destination, kinda similar to how the Compass works in the previous game.

Inflicting Frost damage on enemies slows their movements and make them easier to hit and avoid. Fill up the Frost gauge for a much better and longer lasting effect.

Some enemies have Frosted Health that makes your Leviathan Axe's attacks to be ineffective. Burn them with the Blades of Chaos first to make them vulnerable!

You will obtain your first Runic Attack, Winter's Bite, after defeating The Huntress. Runic Attacks are items that can be slotted on your weapons.
Use their unique skills to quickly deal damage and inflict Stun, Burn, or Frost!

Attacks that emit a yellow ring will break your block, but they can be parried. Parrying such attacks, by pressing L1 right as the attack hits, will interrupt them and inflict Stun damage to the enemy.
On the other hand, attacks with a red ring are both unblockable and unparriable, so dodge away with X.

Locking on your enemy by pressing R3 allows you to track their movements and make it easier to aim your attacks. This is especially helpful on boss fights where you need to watch out for their powerful moves.

During the fight against Thor on the bridge, you can interact with the small pillars around and swing them at Thor to deal a decent amount of damage.
How to Beat Thor (First Encounter)

At some point during The Huntress fight, Atreus will mention that her horns are glowing. These are actually weakpoints that you can exploit by throwing your axe to stagger The Huntress for a few seconds.
