Ragnarok Ending Explained: Does Kratos Die?

Does Kratos Die?

Kratos Lives On

Despite being prophesized to die in the previous game, Kratos survives his encounter with both Thor and Odin. In the end, most of Kratos' friends survive Ragnarok, except for Freyr who stops Surtr's sword from killing everyone.

Becomes Worshipped

Behind the shrine shown by Angrboda, a painting depicts Kratos being worshipped by all the races. From there, alongside Freya, the two set to rebuild what's left of the realms after Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok Ending Explained

Angrboda Reveals a Hidden Shrine

At the end of the game, Angrboda shows both Kratos and Atreus a hidden shrine.

The shrine depicts Faye destroying the shrine in Jotunheim where Kratos and his son visited right before spreading her ashes. The shrine also depicts Faye fighting with the other giants.

Fighting the giants is what led to the death of Faye, which started the events of the previous game.

Atreus Leaves to Find More Giants

After learning about how his mother died, Atreus takes it upon himself to locate more of the giants. He leaves Kratos and joins up with Angrboda to search for the remaining giants.

Freya Joins Kratos

With the absence of Atreus and with the need to rebuild after Ragnarok, Freya joins up with Kratos as his partner.
