How to Beat Dreki

Dreki Tips and Strategies
CheckmarkStay Aggressive

CheckmarkKeep Out of Electrified Acid

CheckmarkFrost Up the Leviathan Axe

CheckmarkUse Spartan Rage Wisely

CheckmarkFocus On One Dreki at a Time

Stay Aggressive

The best way to counter the Dreki's aggressive behavior and attack patterns is to stay on the offensive. Pressure the lizard with your Leviathan Axe and continuously parry its predictable attacks to rapidly build up its stun meter and prevent it from fighting back.

You can also weave Atreus' shots between attacks to maintain pressure and maximize your overall damage output.

Keep Out of Electrified Acid

The Dreki can spit out globs of electrified acid that linger in small pools on the ground. Staying in these pools paralyzes Kratos and inflicts damage over time, so mind your positioning and keep out of them when they appear.

Frost Up the Leviathan Axe

Maintain the Frost Awaken buff on your Leviathan Axe throughout the fight to slow down the Dreki. Doing this makes it easier to maintain and build up the Dreki's stun meter and leaves it more open to your Leviathan Axe combos.

Interrupt Ranged Attacks with Frosted Axes

Using Frost Awaken on your Leviathan Axe also allows you to interrupt the Dreki's unblockable ranged spit attacks with Frost-enhanced thrown axes. Keep this tip in mind when closing the gap toward the lizard.

Use Spartan Rage Wisely

Ragnarok - Use Spartan Rage Wisely (Dreki)
Spartan Rage is an incredibly potent ability when fighting against the Dreki, as it inflicts massive damage and restores Kratos' health with every hit. However, since it's a resource-based ability, we recommend saving it for low-health situations or when you become paralyzed by its electrified attacks.

Focus On One Dreki at a Time

Ragnarok - Focus On One Dreki at a Time
Future encounters will have you fight two Dreki at a time. To have an easier time with these fights, we recommend taking down one Dreki at a time instead of spreading damage between the two.

Dreki Attack Patterns

Dreki Attacks and Moves
Initial Phase Electrified Phase Second Encounter

Initial Phase

Tail Whip

The Dreki postures its tail on one side before quickly whipping it around, covering a wide area in front of it and dealing moderate damage on hit. You can efficiently deal with this attack by reacting to the attack's distinct wind-up animation and blocking or parrying it when it comes out.

Pouncing Bite

The Dreki lets out a small roar before leaping into the air to slam its jaws on top of Kratos, dealing heavy damage on hit and knocking Kratos to the ground. Avoid this attack by reacting to its yellow ring indicator and parrying or evading it when it comes out.

Twin Bite Combo

The Dreki bites at Kratos before opening its jaws to wind up a second bite, with both attacks in this combo dealing moderate damage on hit. The second bite in this combo is a yellow ring attack, so block the first attack and evade or parry the latter to avoid getting hurt.

Bite and Pounce Combo

The Dreki combines its Twin Bite Combo and Pouncing Bite, snapping its jaws twice toward Kratos before ending its combo with a leaping bite. The second and third bites in this combo are yellow ring attacks, so block the first strike and evade or parry the latter two to avoid getting hit.

Missing the parry timing of the combo's Pouncing Bite allows the Dreki to follow up with two more quick bites, so prepare to dodge or parry these attacks when they occur.

Water Spit

At longer ranges, the Dreki can spit a slow-moving water projectile toward Kratos. To deal with this attack, evade sideways or block the projectile with Kratos' shield.

Water Spit Barrage

The Dreki raises its maw into the air before spitting out a barrage of water projectiles toward Kratos. Since this attack has block-break properties, repeatedly evade sideways and avoid blocking the water projectiles when it comes out.

Electrified Phase

In addition to its attacks in its initial phase, the Dreki gains the following new attacks in its electrified second phase.

Electric Discharge

Lightning crackles around the ground as the Dreki prepares to let out an unblockable electric shockwave, causing Shock buildup and dealing moderate damage on hit. React to the attack's red ring indicator and immediately roll backward out of its way to avoid getting hurt.

Electrified Acid Spit

The Dreki spits out a trio of electrified acid balls, leaving deadly pools on the ground that cause Shock build-up and inflict damage over time. To deal with this attack, dodge sideways to avoid the volley of spit and reposition away from the lingering electrified acid.

Electrified Spit Barrage

In this phase, Dreki modifies its Water Spit Barrage to inflict Shock on contact. Like its first phase version, repeatedly evade sideways to dodge through the projectiles and avoid getting hit.

Second Encounter

The two Dreki in the second encounter in Vanaheim gain a few new moves.

Acid Spit

The Dreki rears its head back before launching a glob of unblockable acid spit toward Kratos, dealing moderate damage on hit and leaving a lingering pool of acid on the ground.

React to this attack's red ring indicator and dodge sideways to avoid the initial projectile, then reposition away from the lingering acid to avoid taking damage.

Poison Breath

The Dreki raises its head upward before releasing a spray of toxic breath toward Kratos, hitting him multiple times and rapidly building up the Poison debuff. To deal with this attack, evade sideways or block the incoming poison breath to avoid getting hurt.

Triple Bite Combo

The Dreki performs its Twin Bite Combo before following it up with an unblockable blue-ring bite. To deal with this attack, evade or parry the first two bites and interrupt the latter with a Shield Strike to stagger the Dreki and leave it open for a counterattack.

Submerged Projectile Spit

When either Dreki submerges itself underwater, it can poke its head out to spit at Kratos with acid or water from long-range. To deal with this attack, evade sideways out of the projectile's path, then reposition away from any lingering acid.
