When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Def / -Res

The best IVs for Arlen are +Def and -Res. Arlen's Def is a superboon and boosts it up to base 42, allowing him to fulfill a secondary role as a physical tank on top of his primary offensive role.

Arlen's Res is quite abysmal at only base 17, and no amount of investment will protect him against a good magic damage attacker. Taking Res as a bane is his best option.

+Spd for a +10 merge

We recommend +Spd when merging Arlen up to +10 in order to protect himself from follow-up attacks against the fastest metagame foes. +Def is also an option if preferring to invest into bulk instead.

How to Use, Explanation

This build allows Arlen to function as an offensive unit with a secondary role as a physical tank. Atk Smoke 4 denies his foe's follow-up attack while granting him the visible Res bonus he lacks from Lightburst Tome.

Arlen is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.

Arlen Strengths

Lightburst Tome grants unhindered movement

Arlen's Lightburst Tome grants Atk/Spd/Def+6 and an Unhindered Movement effect to himself and nearby allies at the start of each turn. This effect allows unit to traverse through passable terrain without getting movement restrictions, such as moving through trees for infantry units and moving through trenches for cavalry units.

In combat, Lightburst Tome inflicts Atk/Spd/Res penalties onto his foe based on their maximum Special cooldown count, grants Arlen Special cooldown count-1 before his first attack, 30% damage reduction on his foe's first attack, damage reflection based on the damage reduced, and 7 HP post-combat healing.

These effects all add up to make Arlen a formidable unit when in combat, dealing a good chunk of damage while providing sustain and bulk to survive difficult engagements.
