Valentine's Vigarde comes with a pretty powerful inheritable axe in Axe of Devotion+. This axe deals pre-combat damage based on his foe's Atk stat and whether Vigarde has more Def than his foe.

The damage dealt by this effect is applied right as combat begins and cannot be prevented, allowing Vigarde to wear down bulky units with ease.

Axe of Devotion+ also grants Atk/Def+5 and additional Atk/Def bonuses equal to 15% of Vigarde's Def during combat, providing the extra power necessary to leave a dent onto his enemies or defeat them completely.
