Deep Desert Update 1.1.0.17

  1. Larger PvE Zones
  2. More Resources in the North

Larger PvE Zones

This update adjusts the Deep Desert where the whole southern half of it is now a PvE area. Control Points and Shipwrecks found within the PvE area will still continue to be PvP zones.

1.1.0.17 Patch Notes and Summary

More Resources in the North

Resource density increases as you go farther north. This means that you'll need to enter the PvP area if you want to maximize the resources you gather, as that's where the resources are the most. This includes large spice fields that only spawn in the northern area of the Deep Desert.

This, in turn, reduces the spawn rate of valuable resources like Titanium and Stravidium in the PvE area, causing them to spawn more frequently in the far northern part of the PvP zone.

How to Get to the Deep Desert

Use the Ornithopter to Travel From the Overland Map

Deep Desert

Use the Ornithopter to fly to the edge of the map to access the Overland Map. From there, travel to the northwestern (top-leftmost) part of the map to find the Deep Desert area. Make sure you have sufficient Water and Fuel for the journey!

What is the Deep Desert?

Ever-Changing Endgame Zone

Dune Awakening - Deep Desert Beckons
The Deep Desert in Dune: Awakening is a vast, ever-changing endgame zone where danger meets opportunity. Shaped weekly by Coriolis storms, it offers a rotating landscape filled with rare resources, shifting control points, and high-value PvE encounters.

Players explore, map, and trade intel using Sinkcharts, while guilds coordinate logistics, spice harvesting, and base building. But with great rewards come serious risks: ringmouth sandworms that can devour vehicles whole, sudden sandstorms, and brutal PvP skirmishes with full friendly fire enabled. Players must also manage dehydration under relentless sun and be cautious of using shields, which may attract worms or prove unreliable in the open sands.

Build a Base When You Can

Build a Base When You Can

In the Deep Desert, there are no points you can follow on your compass. Your only reference point will be wherever you build your base.

Before entering the Deep Desert, stock up on materials like Granite Stone for your future base. Then, when you have a base set up, craft and deploy a Respawn Beacon so you can return to it when you die.

You could build your base at Sectors A1 to A9, since these sectors are PvE (Player versus Environment) areas where the only enemies are NPCs, while the rest of the sectors are PvP where players can fight each other.

Bring Welding Torches and Welding Wires

Bring Welding Torches and Welding Wires for Vehicle Repair

The Ornithopter is crucial for traversing the Deep Desert and going back to Hagga Basin. However, they can be attacked by players or get damaged from bad driving. If you are stranded with no vehicles, you will have to die to respawn in Hagga Basin.

To maintain your vehicles, always have some Welding Wires and a Welding Torch in your inventory.

Only Bring Necessary Items

When you die, you drop your backpack which has your remaining items. In the Deep Desert, other players have access to your backpack. Only bring items you need for crafting, repairs, and exploration.

Listen to Your Surroundings

Listen to Your Surroundings

Aside from HUD cues, use your hearing to locate nearby enemies. If you hear gunshots and rapid footsteps, a fight is likely nearby. Use this information to reposition, join in the fight, or to come back later to scavenge any leftover loot.

Equip High Tier Gear

There is no limit to what kind of equipment players can bring in the Deep Desert. This means other players will bring high tier gear like plastanium gear.

Equip the best gear you can get craft or afford to stand a chance against stronger players.

Watch Out for the Giant Sandworm

There is a special kind of Worm in the Deep Desert, where i a player is in their zone, it will eventually kill anything standing on it.

Just like in Hagga Basin, your loadout and inventory will be destroyed if you get eaten by the worm. Take extrra precuation traveling or harvesting Spice nearby their area.

Earn Landsraad's Favor with Capture Points

To earn the Landsraad's favor, gain influence for your faction, and unlock exclusive items, you have complete objectives like Capture Points. These are huge battles with a ton of players so make sure to maximize your build before joining the fight!

Weekly Map Resets

Dune Awakening - Coriolis Storm
The Coriolis storm reshapes the desert each week, shifting loot, objectives, and terrain to keep exploration fresh.

PvE and PvP Zones

Dune Awakening - Deep Desert PvP PvE
Behind the Shield Wall lies a massive PvE-only region, ideal for building forward bases and avoiding hostile players. Beyond it, the true Deep Desert allows full PvP, where factions clash over spice, rare loot, and control points tied to the Landsraad political system.

81-Tile Mega Map

A massive grid-based desert where each sector must be scouted and charted manually for intel and planning. The Deep Desert spans over 500 square kilometers, making it one of the largest and most ambitious zones in the game.

With 81 massive tiles to explore, from windswept dunes to hidden eco labs and spice blows, the scale supports large-scale operations, multi-guild conflicts, and deep exploration.

Spice Harvesting

Dune Awakening - Spice Farming Guide Textless.png

Deploy thumpers, dodge sandworms, and extract spice — critical for crafting all endgame gear.

Cartography and Sinkcharts

Dune Awakening - Sinkcharts
Players can survey individual sectors of the massive 81-tile map to uncover hidden points of interest like spice blows, eco labs, shipwrecks, and caves. Once surveyed, they can craft a sync chart — a detailed map of that sector which includes who created it and how recent the data is.

These charts can be shared with allies to skip manual scouting or sold on the player-driven exchange, making information a valuable and tradable resource.

Control Points and Politics

Deep Desert Rewards

Spice Blows

Dune Awakening - Spice Blows

Periodic spice eruptions (or spice blows) occur across the Deep Desert. Teams coordinate (scouts in ornithopters, thumpers, a sandcrawler) to harvest as much melange as possible.

Successful runs yield large cargoes of raw spice. Because spice attracts worms and rival players, these operations are high-risk but high-reward.

Endgame Resources

Dune Awakening - Deep Desert Gathering
The Deep Desert is a place where players can gather Tier 6 and 7 Materials. They are typically found in eco labs, resource nodes, and shipwrecks scattered throughout the Deep Desert.

All Resources and Map Locations

Unique Schematics

Rare, one-time-use blueprints for powerful weapons, vehicles, and armor can be discovered in eco labs, shipwrecks, and hidden desert caches.
