How to Get Started in Dune: Awakening

Character Creation

Go through the character creation and customize your character's look through the various options and sliders available. This is also where you'll choose your starting class and background which determine your starting abilities and special interactions. Take your time in creating your character, as these are irreversible!

Character Creation Guide and Sharing Board

Choosing the Best Class or Faction

We recommend taking the Swordmaster for a strong melee-focused class, or the Mentat for its high early-game ranged damage.

In addition, these two classes are found later on in Hagga Basin, so it would be helpful to have from the start.

Keep in mind that you are not limited to one class. You can use different skill trees from other classes by talking to their respective Masters and completing their quests.

Complete Story Walkthrough

Surviving in Arrakis

At its core, the game is about survival. You'll have to siphon resources where you can to make your base thrive despite the hostile environment. Here are the basics you need to know to survive the most dangerous planet in the universe:

  1. Hydration
  2. Equipment
  3. Transportation

Hydration

Hydration is extremely important as it is tied to your stamina and health. Having your hydration level above one-third gives you a maximum stamina bonus, where additional bonus is granted the higher the hydration level is.

Being dehydrated will cause you to lose health until you are hydrated again.

Equipment

  1. Heat Protection - This indicates how much protection it offers against the sun, and how fast the sun gauge will fill up.
  2. Armor Value - Armor value directly relates to how much armor it provides.
  3. Mitigation Value - There will be a mitigation value available for the following weapons:
Blade, Light Dart, Concussive, Heavy Dart
  4. Dash Stamina Cost - How much the garment will affect your stamina when you dash
  5. Worm Threat - Indicates how much your footsteps are dampened by your garment when traversing on the dunes, making you less likely to attract Sandworms
  6. Catchpocket Size - Indicates how much your inventory is when this garment is equipped

The garments you wear will be important in your gameplay because they modify a lot of your character's stats in the desert. More than that, they also affect how much stamina is used per dash, which can be deadly in a fight.

Transportation

Sandbike
You will use several tools while traversing the dunes of Arrakis. Equipment such as the Suspensor Belt allows you to glide in the air, skills such as the Shigawire Claw that Troopers start with that lets you hook onto high surfaces and pull you high into the air, and several vehicles that will get you to distant regions faster.

Crafting and Building

Your base will be the hub of all your activities in the game. Not only will your main storage be there, but your workstations and water stockpile will also be there. Crafting your equipment and keeping those workstations safe is essential in advancing the game. To start your base, you'll have to use a Sub-Fief Console.

Resource Gathering

Resources

Spreading out from your main area is the best way to get resources, especially when venturing into different locations can earn you unique schematics. The sandbike will be extremely handy in transporting your loot into your base in a quick manner, just keep in mind of Sandworms when traversing.

List of Controls

Get Kaleff's Drinker Immediately

Blood Purifier Water
Harvesting dewdrops in the desert won't last as your main source of water; at some point, you'll be harvesting blood on the regular. Kaleff’s Drinker is going to be your best friend in the desert as you survive in the early game.

It'll be tedious work filling up blood bags, so it's worth it to visit the Wreck of Alcyon to find the schematic of Kaleff’s Drinker. This short blade allows you to harvest blood during melee fights, allowing you to harvest at least twice as much when partnered with the Improvised Blood Extractor.

Invest in Your Weapon First

Strong Weapon
Investing in a strong early game weapon will help you progress through the earlier areas of Hagga Basin much faster. One of the best early rifles would be Aren's Vengeance, found in Broken Stone Station, Hagga Basin South. Unique Weapons are especially strong, so try to gather the resources to craft them!

Pick Up Free Sandbike Parts in Outposts and Imperial Testing Stations

To get your first vehicle faster, make sure to pick up free Sandbike parts in Outposts and Imperial Testing Stations within Hagga Basin South. One particular location you may want to visit would be Imperial Testing Station 2, since you can also find the Planetologist Trainer.

Spice Blow

Spice Melange is often needed to craft equipment later on. When you see Spice Sand, or a purple smoke out in the sand, try your best to collect some! Be quick though as it will attract sandworms!

Make a Water Farm

Water Farm
Water is required when refining most of your needed resources. Though purifying blood can be enough at the first, it is recommended to begin working on a water farm to make more stable source of water.
