Planetologist is the only class you cannot start the game with. Thus, starting with Mentat is recommended to have access to The Sentinel Skill, which gives you high early game PvE damage. This turret allows you to clear all enemies until you finish the Planetologist Trainer's quest.

Once you do have Planetologist, you can start building towards resource and traversal-focused passives and skills. This includes Suspensor Pad and Shigawire Claw, which is a great combo for mobility. The end-game goal is basically to max out all three of the Planetologist Skill Trees to ensure you gather resources as efficiently as possible.

Moving forward, boost your ranged damage to make sure you can defend yourself when cornered. You can also build into some defensive passives from Bene Gesserit's Body Control Skill Tree for better survivability.

Best Weapons

Type Weapons
Guns
Melee

The Mendek's Rattle is a great choice as an all-around rifle since you can use it mid-range, and its high fire rate makes for good close-range damage. For melee options, the Feyd's Drinker offers great utility when collecting blood.

During the early game, you can use the Standard Karpov 38 and Kaleff's Drinker, as they are the lower-tiered versions of the weapons mentioned above. Getting these early on will get you familiarized with how to effectively use the weapons.

Best Armor and Tools

Type Equipment
Head
Body
Arms Advanced Reaper Gloves
Feet
Shield
Belt

All Unique Armor pieces mentioned above improve resource gathering. The Shield you use may not matter as much, so equip the best Shield you have available. For the Suspensor Belt, using a Full Suspensor Belt provides a significant boost in traversal, aiding you in reaching high terrain much easier.

In the early game, you may opt to use the Scavenger Stillsuit line within Hagga Basin South to retain as much water as possible when you progress through the map.

How to Play Explorer Planetologist

Stock Up on Resources

Planetologist Resource
Whether playing solo or with a group, this build is best when focusing on gathering resources. The faster you get materials, the quicker you can get tools and machinery that improve production.

Engage Only When Needed

Ideally, engage enemies in the early game only when you are cornered or when you need more blood and resources. Most camps only have 1 or 2 enemies, so you can switch to The Sentinel Skill to deal with them quickly.

Use Suspensor Pad and Shigawire Claw for Mobility

By using the Planetologist's Suspensor Pad, the Trooper's Shigawire Claw, and a Leap Suspensor Belt, you can scale structures more easily. This is especially useful while climbing up high points when using Survey Probes.
