The best starting party for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (DQ3) is built around the effectiveness of your characters. Read on to learn what the best starting party you should use in the game, as well as the best classes for your playstyle.

The best starting party in the game should always consist of both the Hero and Mage vocations to access to skills and spells that are exclusive to them.
For the main damage dealer, it is recommended that the role be given to the Warrior to further reinforce your damage output in battle, as well as a contingency to tank enemy hits when necessary.
It is also ideal to have a Priest in your party to provide recovery after you've incurred damage from enemy attacks.

If you plan to speedrun the game and progress through the early stages as efficient as possible, then it is recommended that you use the job classes listed above that specialize in both offense and defense.
The Thief specializes in debuffing enemy attacks and taking advantage of status ailments, so use the job class to make quick work of enemies encountered.
For tanking enemy hits, it is best to rely on the Warrior to prevent incurring further damage in battle. They also have access to various offensive skills, so retaliate against enemies after taking their hits.

If your sole intent is to punish and defeat enemies with sheer power, then the job classes listed above are ideal for your best starting party setup.
Martial Artist is a job class intent on unleashing the highest possible damage against your enemies, with some of its skills equipped with certain buffs that make it more potent.
The Gadabout is a bit of a wildcard, given that you will not be able to direct command its actions later in the game. Its role as a buffer and debuffer can provide you countless advantages in battle, enabling you to gain momentum during difficult battles.

I actually think the Merchant is a really strong candidate for great starting character. They get rock throw at level 3, and it is an attack that does low to mid damage on ALL enemies. I was able to breeze through the start with the merchant just wiping the enemies on all the battles till Romania. The extra gold they get after battle has been massively upgraded from the original. Now they get a base 20% of overall money. So battle gives 100gp you also get 20gp extra. Really helps.
