The Protagonist Has No Canon Name Officially
The game does not provide a default name for the player when typing out a possible name for the protagonist.
Arus has been commonly associated with the protagonist's name, possibly owing to the name of the leading character in the manga spinoff Dragon Quest Retsuden.
When choosing the female protagonist, Irene has been known as the possible canon name for long-time players of the Dragon Quest Franchise.
Enix Was Used As The Protagonist Name
Enix was used as the default name for the character when the game was released on Super Nintendo. It may be alluded to the game's publisher, which is none other than Square Enix.
Can You Change the Protagonist Name?
The Protagonist's Name Cannot Be Changed
The only instance where you can change the protagonist's name is during the beginning where you decide the name for your character in the Adventure Log Menu.
From there, your name becomes permanent and can no longer be changed later in the game.
