If, at any point, all party members fall in battle, you will be teleported back to Aliahan with a dead party. The king tells you how much EXP each of your party members need to level up, and you will be given the choice to save.
Afterwards, he will ask if you wish to continue your journey or not. Continuing your journey will resume your journey in Aliahan with your dead party members, while saying no will bring you back to the title screen.
When the Hero or a party member falls in battle, they will not be able to participate in battle until they've been revived back.
After the battle, dead party members will not be revived and will need to be resurrected in a Church.
Party members who die in battle will still receive EXP but cannot level up during that battle.
Instead, they will level up after the next battle they survive after spawning back from Aliahan.
In the case that the Hero falls in battle before a story cutscene, he will be revived with 1 HP after the cutscene.
Churches in Dragon Quest 3 provide various services to the player, one of which is resurrecting a party member in exchange for gold.
This gold price will depend on the player's level so take note that the price will fluctuate depending on where you are in the main campaign.
There's several options to revive party members in battle.
Zing and Kazing from the Priest and Sage Vocation are able to revive party members in battle in exchange for MP, while the Yggdrasil Leaf is an item able to revive party members to full health.
