When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
Sain's best IVs are +Spd and -Res. His Spd is at a respectable base 38 and boosting it improves his performance in combat.
+Atk is also an option if opting for extra damage instead. With Sain's high base 42 Atk, additional Atk may be enough to punch through sturdier tanks.
Sain's Res is at an abysmal base 18. It is unsalvageable and should be the bane of choice.
We recommend +Spd when merging Sain up to +10. His Spd needs the boon in order to keep up with the fastest units in the metagame.

Sain is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Sain's Jolly Jade Lance is a unique and powerful weapon that grants an additional action to Sain upon using a Rally assist skill on his allies.
With Sain's cavalry movement, you can move in front of an ally, use a Rally skill, and then go on the offensive. Using this pattern of attack, Sain can move up to 6 spaces in one turn, plus an extra space with Jolly Jade Lance's Canto effect!
Sain's stats and skills work together to keep him alive and healthy at all times.
His Spd/Def Catch 4 can prevent enemies from making a follow-up attack against him while improving his bulk simultaneously. Flow Refresh 3 ensures that effects that deny Sain's follow-up attacks are neutralized and heals him 10 HP after every combat.
These skills, together with Sain's high Spd and Def make him deceptively tanky and difficult to defeat with physical damage.
Sain's Res is sitting at a very low base 18. No amount of investment will help him survive magical attacks from the metagame's key magic attackers.
Keep Sain away from magic damage at all costs.
Sain takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Thani or Binding Reginleif, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!

Sain comes with Rally Up Atk+, Spd/Def Catch 4, and Flow Refresh 3 as great inheritance options.
Spd/Def Catch 4 is unique to Sain as of June 2022. However, it isn't as useful as Atk/Spd Catch 4 on most heroes. Flow Refresh 3 is a better way of utilizing additional copies of Sain you may have.
